كان بنو أمية أولى الأسر المسلمة الحاكمة،إذحكموا من سنة 41 هـ (662 م) إلى 132 هـ (750 م)، وكانت عاصمةالدولةفي مدينة دمشق. بلغت الدولة الأموية ذروة اتساعها في عهدالخليفةالعاشر هشام بن عبد الملك، إذ امتدت حدودها من أطراف الصينشرقاً حتىجنوب فرنسا غرباً، وتمكنت من فتح إفريقية والمغرب والأندلسوجنوبالغال والسند وما وراء النهر.يرجع الأمويون في نسبهم إلى أميَّة بن عبد شمس من قبيلة قريش.وكانلهم دورٌ هام في عهد الجاهلية وخلال العهد الإسلامي. أسلَم معاويةبنأبي سفيان في عهد الرسول محمد، وتأسست الدولة الأموية على يده،وكانقبلاً واليًا على الشام في عهد الخليفة عمر بن الخطاب، ثم نشبنزاعبينه وبين علي بن أبي طالب بعد فتنة مقتل عثمان، حتى تنازل ابنهالحسنعن الخلافة لمعاوية بعد مقتل أبيه، فتأسست الدولة بذلك. أخذمعاوية عنالبيزنطيين بعض مظاهر الحكم والإدارة إذ جعل الخلافةوراثيَّة عندماعهد لابنه يزيد بولاية العهد، واتخذ عرشًا وحراسًاوأحاط نفسه بأبَّهةالملك، وبنى له مقصورة خاصَّة في المسجد، كما أنشأديوان الخاتم ونظامالبريد. بعد وفاة يزيد اضطربت الأمور، فطالب ابنالزبير بالخلافة، ثمتمكن عبد الملك بن مروان بن الحكم من هزمه وقتلهفي مكة سنة 73 هـ،فاستقرت الدولة مجدداً.جرت أكبر الفتوحات الأموية في عهد الوليد بن عبد الملك، فاستكملفتحالمغرب، وفتحت الأندلس بكاملها، وفتحت السند بقيادة محمد بنالقاسمالثقفي وبلاد ما وراء النهر بقيادة قتيبة بن مسلم. خلفه سليمانبن عبدالملك الذي توفي على أرض المعركة خلال قيادته حصارالقسطنطينية، ثمالخليفة الزاهد عمر بن عبد العزيز، الذي يعد من أفضلالخلفاء الأمويينسيرة. وخلفه بعده ابن عمه يزيد، ثم هشام، الذي فتحفي عهده جنوب فرنسا،وكان عهده طويلاً وكثير الاستقرار. وبعد موتهدخلت الدولة في حالة منالاضطراب الشديد، حتى سيطر مروان بن محمد علىالخلافة، فأخذ يتنقل بينالأقاليم ويقمع الثورات والاضطرابات، ثمالتقى مع العباسيين في معركةالزاب فهزم وقتل، وكانت نهاية الدولةالأموية.المحتوىمقدمةالتاريخالدولة والحضارةنظام الحكمThe sons of the rulingwasthe first Muslim families illiteracy, it ruled from the year 41AH(662 m) to 132 AH (750 AD), and was the capital of the state inthecity of Damascus.
