The son had himself beenblessed by the priest.When the time came, the father and son went together to thefield, and the son made a circle and placed himself inside it withhis father. Then the black dwarf came and claimed what hewanted.They spoke for a long time but finally agreed that the son didnot belong to anyone. He should be seated in a small boat andremain given up to the water.The boat floated quietly away and stopped by an unknown shore.When he landed, he saw a beautiful castle before him, and set outto reach it.When he entered it, he found that it was bewitched. When hereached the last room, he saw a snake. The snake was an enchantedmaiden who rejoiced to see him.She said, “Twelve black men will come and ask what you are doinghere. They will beat you, but do not speak and let everything pass.At twelve o'clock they must go away. After three days like that Ishall be released.”And everything happened just as she said. On the third night thesnake became a beautiful princess again. The Three Little Men in the WoodThere was once a man whose wife had died and a woman whosehusband had died. They each had a daughter and the girls knew eachother.The woman said to the man's daughter, "Tell your father that Iwill marry him, and you will be treated better than my owndaughter."The girl went home and told her father what the woman had saidand soon there was a wedding and the man and woman weremarried.However, the woman hated her new stepdaughter. PinocchioOnce there was a wood carver in Tuscany named Geppetto. Hefinished work on a wooden marionette and named it Pinocchio.Before falling asleep, Geppetto made a wish upon a star thatPinocchio could be a real boy.During the night, the Blue Fairy visited his workshop andbrought Pinocchio to life, even though he still remained amarionette.She told Pinocchio that if he proved himself brave, truthful,and unselfish he would become a real boy, and assigned Jiminy, atalking cricket, to be his conscience.Geppetto discovered that his wish had come true and was filledwith joy.Next morning, Pinocchio went to school with Jiminy.However, Pinocchio was led astray by Honest John the Fox and hiscompanion, Gideon the Cat, who convinced him to join Stromboli'spuppet show.Despite Jiminy's objections, Pinocchio became Stromboli's starattraction as a marionette that could sing and dance withoutstrings.At the end of the day, Stromboli locked Pinocchio in a birdcageto prevent him going home. The Blue Fairy then appeared and askedhim why he wasn’t at school.Pinocchio started telling lies which caused his nose to growlonger and longer. When Pinocchio vowed to be good from now on, theBlue Fairy restored his nose back to its original form and set himfree.Encountering Pinocchio on his way home, Honest John and Gideonconvinced him to take a ride with some other boys to PleasureIsland. Pinocchio, once again, ignored Jiminy’s warning andfollowed the bad guys.Without any rules or authority to stop them, Pinocchio and theother boys soon enjoyed gambling, smoking, and getting drunk, muchto Jiminy's dismay.Later, Jiminy discovered that the island harbored a terriblecurse. The boys all made jackasses of themselves by becoming realdonkeys to go and work in salt mines and circuses.Jiminy ran back to warn Pinocchio. They managed to escape withPinocchio only having a donkey's ears and tail.Upon returning home, Pinocchio and Jiminy found the workshopempty.They learned through a message from the Blue Fairy that Geppettohad left to search for Pinocchio with Leo and Figaro. Their boathad been swallowed up by a giant whale named Monstro.Determined to rescue his father, Pinocchio jumped into the sea,with Jiminy accompanying him.
