Then they came to a bigforest, and they were so tired that they climbed up into a talltree and fell asleep.Their wicked stepmother was also a witch and she knew that thetwo children had run away. So she sneaked after them and cast aspell on all the streams in the forest. In the morning, the children found a small stream and the boywas going to drink from it but his sister heard it say, "Who drinksof me, a tiger will be!" So the brother refrained fromdrinking. When they came to a second stream, the sister heard it say, "Whodrinks of me, a fawn will be!" But it was too late, her brother hadalready drunk the water and become a fawn. The sister wept over her poor lost brother and the fawn weptalso. Then she took off her her golden belt, tied it around thefawn's neck and they went deeper into the forest. Finally, they came to a little house and the maiden lookedinside. As it was empty, she thought, "We might as well live here."And they lived a long while in the wilderness, all alone. Now it happened that the King of that country was holding agreat hunt in the forest. The fawn heard the hunt and did not wantto be caught by them. His sister said, “So that I know you when youknock on the door, you must say, ‘Little sister, let me in.’”When the hunters saw the fawn, they chased after him. Theyfollowed him to the little house and heard him call out, "Littlesister, let me in.”When the door opened, the King hastily pushed into the houseand, there before him, stood a maiden more beautiful than any hehad ever seen. The King looked kindly on her, and said, "Will you go with me tomy castle and be my dear wife?""Oh yes," answered the maiden, "but the fawn must come too. Icannot leave him."The King lifted the beautiful maiden onto his horse and carriedher to his castle where the wedding was held with great ceremony. The fawn was well looked after and lived freely in the castlegarden. When the wicked stepmother heard that the brother and sisterwere now very happy, her heart was filled with jealousy....--------------------------------------------------------We hope you enjoy this book. Sleeping BeautyIn times past there once lived a king and queen who had nochild. After a long time, the queen bore a daughter who was sobeautiful that the king ordained a great feast. When the feast drew to an end, the fairies stood forward to presentto the child their wonderful gifts. Then the uninvited evil fairy came and she was so angry that shecast a spell on the infant princess so that she would prick herfinger on a spinning wheel needle and die.One fairy, who hadn't yet given her gift, attempted to weaken thecurse: the Princess will fall into a deep sleep for 100 years andbe awakened by a kiss from a prince. Now the king, wishing to save his child from even this misfortune, gave commandment that all the spinning wheels in his kingdom shouldbe burned. The maiden grew up, adorned with all the gifts of the wise women;and she was so lovely, modest, sweet, kind and clever, that no onewho saw her could help loving her.It happened one day, when she was already fifteen years old, thatthe king and queen went away and the maiden was left behind alonein the castle. She wandered around all the nooks and corners of the castle, andwalked into a little room with a spinning wheel. As she began to spin, the inevitable curse was fulfilled. She fellback upon the bed that was there and lay in a deep sleep, and thesleep fell upon the whole castle.A surrounding hedge of thorns grew thicker every year, until atlast the whole castle was hidden from view, and nothing of it couldbe seen except the weather vane on the roof. Many long years later, a king's son came into the country. “I donot fear to try,” he said, “I shall win through and see the lovelyprincess."He passed through hedge of thorns and opened the door to the littleroom where she lay. And when he saw her looking so lovely in hersleep, he stooped and kissed her.She was awakened and looked very lovingly at him. Everyone else inthe castle also awoke. Then they were married at a magnificentwedding, and they lived very happily ever after.--------------------------------------------------------We hope you enjoy this book. Rose-Red screamed and sprang back, whileSnow-White hid herself behind her mother's bed.The bear began to speak and said, "Do not be afraid, I will doyou no harm! I am half-frozen, and only want to warm myself alittle beside you.""Poor bear," said the mother. "Lie down by the fire, only take carethat you do not burn your coat."The bear said to the girls, “Please knock the snow out of mycoat a little;" so they brought the broom and swept the bear's furclean while he stretched himself comfortably by the fire andgrowled contentedly. As soon as day dawned, the two children let him out and hetrotted off across the snow and into the forest. From then on, thebear came around every evening at the same time and let thechildren amuse themselves with him as much as they liked. When spring came, the bear said to Snow White, "I must go intothe forest and guard my treasures from the wicked dwarfs.” SnowWhite was quite sad that he was going away and she unbolted thedoor for him. The bear ran off quickly and was soon out ofsight.A short time afterwards, the mother sent her children into theforest to collect firewood. They saw a dwarf with a snow-whitebeard, a yard long, and the end of the beard was caught in thecrevice of a tree.He glared at the girls with his fiery red eyes and cried, "Whydo you stand there? Can you not come here and help me?""Don't be impatient," said Snow White, "I will help you," andshe pulled her out of her pocket and cut off the end of hisbeard. As soon as the dwarf was free, he swung his bag over hisshoulder and went off without giving the children a secondglance....--------------------------------------------------------We hope you enjoy this book. Shewasnamed Snow White. The Queen, who was Snow White’s stepmother, had a magicmirrorand she used to ask it, “Who is fairest of us all?” Itwouldanswer, “You are fairest of them all.”Snow White was growing prettier and prettier, far more sothanthe queen herself. When she realised that Snow White wasfairerthan her, she was shocked and hated her from thatmomentonwards. Finally, she said to a huntsman, "Take the child out intothewoods, put her to death and bring me her heart for a token."The huntsman had pity on Snow White and let her go. Thenhekilled a young, wild boar and took its heart to the Queen asatoken. The poor child began to run through the forest. The wildbeastswent after her but they did her no harm. She came to a little house and went inside to rest. Everythinginthere was very small, but as clean and tidy as possible. There was a little table with seven little plates, andsevendrinking-cups. Snow White ate from each plate a little meat, anddrank out of each cup a little a drop of wine. After that, she felt so tired that she lay down on theseventhbed which was the right size for her, and fell asleep. The masters of the house were seven dwarfs. When they camehome, they saw beautiful Snow White lying there asleep. They were sofullof joy to see her and let her sleep on.When Snow White awoke and saw them, she was very frightened, butwhen they seemed quite friendly, she told them her story.Thedwarfs allowed her to stay with them, and she kept their houseingood order. In the morning, the dwarfs went to the mountain to dig forgold. In the evening they came home and their soup had to be readyforthem. One day the magic mirror told the Queen that Snow White wasstillalive. The Queen was very angry and knew that the huntsmanmust havedeceived her.She went to her secret chamber and made a poisonous apple.Thenshe made herself like a peasant woman and went to where thesevendwarfs lived. She knocked at the door, showed the apple, and asked SnowWhiteto take a bite. The apple was cunningly made so that she tookabite from the poisoned half. Then she fell to the groundwithoutbreathing. The dwarfs made a coffin of clear glass for Snow White, andweptand lamented for three whole days. However, she still looked asifshe was alive.
