GPS Compass is a small but complete navigationtool, it leverages on both magnetic compass and GPS to give youalways the most accurate information available.
GPS Compass shows you distance and direction to geographicallocation (waypoint) you can define in many ways.
GPS Compass calculates relevant points position by bearing andtriangulation then saves the points as waypoints.
You can see the waypoints on a map or you can use the map to definewaypoints for navigation.
GPS Compass is the basis of the shortcoming Regatta applicationthat adds a lot of feature for sail race navigation.

Regatta Tactic Compass displays the relevant information that helpsyou to optimize the sailing route to the target waypoint. The newrelease adds many features for optimal approaching to the startline. A minimum display resolution 400*240 is required. Thefollowing information are provided in a glance. 1) When navigatingto the next waypoint (see figure 1): - target waypoint bearing(orange point) - target waypoint air distance (orange number on topright) - real boat speed (red number on top right) - real winddirection (blue arrow) - layline position (green line) - distanceto layline (red number on top left) - distance along layline (greennumber) - total distance to target waypoint (red number on bottom=distance to layline + distance along layline) - effective speed totarget (red number on bottom) - polar diagram of effective speed 2)When approaching the start line (see figure 2): -start lineposition as bearing of right and left ends (green arc and red andgreen points) -boat route and its intersection with start line (reddotted line) -distance to the nearest point of start line (orangenumber on top left) -distance to the start line along current route(green number on the top left) -time to start line with currentroute and speed (green number on the bottom center) -time to thenearest point of start line with current speed (orange number onthe bottom center) -count down timer (blue number on the bottomcenter) All you have to do is to insert the waypoint position andwind direction then Regatta will display the route to target withlayline and polar diagram of effective boat speed. The polardiagram is not the usual polar diagram that is a boat intrinsic.The effective speed is the airline distance to target divided bythe estimated time to target, given the current route going tolayline and then to target along the layline. The effective speedis an index of effectiveness of route and varies with the routeangle. The polar diagram shows you which is the route angle thatoptimizes the time to target and compares effective speeds fordifferent angles. There are many ways to insert waypoints.
