So you want to know how to build abotanicalgarden in your yard? Before you start digging carefully consider what you reallywantfrom the garden. You may soon discover that an average sizegardencannot easily provide the requirements for a botanicalgarden. Why?The primary role of a botanical garden is to focus on providingaplant collection with some scientific basis. These gardens arenotdesigned for the outdoor domestic needs of singles, families oracouple.Prior to any design concept it is important to acknowledgethatthe look of your garden will be influenced by the moremundanedomestic garden items such as a children's play equipment, pottingshed, household bins, clothes line and so on.Sure a botanic garden can provide a children's playgroundsandoutdoor seating areas but these activities can often beseparatedfrom the plant collections. It is unlikely that a playarea is alsothe only place available to locate a very rareplant. In general, botanical gardens are large whilst domesticgardensare comparatively small. Creating a successful botanicalgarden ina small area is very different from creating one in alargearea. When space is limited it is very important for every objectinthe garden, including plants, to take on more than one function.Ashrub in a small space may need to act as a screen to block outtheneighbours whilst providing shade from the summer heat andaddcolour to a dark corner. It is hard for a plant to meet allthesefunctional requirements plus also be from only oneplantspecies.Furthermore, small gardens work much better with fewerplanttypes rather than more. Small spaces appear much bigger andaremore appealing to the eye when plants are repeated over andoveragain. A small garden becomes fragmented and appearsdisorderlywhen loads of different plants and garden accessories areused.Still Want a Botanic Garden? The outdoors of the house says a lot about the indoors.Abeautiful garden not just makes you feel the beauty of natureathome but also makes you feel relaxed and at ease.
