Description

Wonkwang University Central Library 본교 중앙도서관은1946년 본 대학의 전신인 유일학림 설립과 동시에 부속 도서실로 출발하였다.
그 후 30여년만인1979년에 이르러 도서관이 신축 (지하1층, 지상6층, 연면적 13,770.69m³)개관하면서주제정보실 체제를 갖추어 완전개가로 출발하였다.
1984년에는 의과대학 1층에 의학 도서실(961.20m³)이 신설되어 의학에 관한 전문적인 체제가 시도되어 끊임없는발전이 이루어지고 있다.
그러나 계속 늘어나는 이용자와 장서수의 증가로 열람실 확보가 시급하게 요구되어, 1995년에 지상4층(구약대건물:3,827.52§³)을 수리 보완하여 자유열람실 전용으로 開館하게 되었다.
이러한 시설면의 확장과 동시에 기하급수적으로 늘어나는 자료의 검색을 용이하게 하는 전산시스템을 추진해 오다가,
1995년에 학술정보시스템(Linnet)을 도입하여 전산화 업무를 추진할 수 있는 기본 체제를 갖추게 되었으며,1999년에는 SLIMA-ST를 도입하게 되었다.
1997년에는 전자도서실을 개실 하여 2001년에 확장개관 하였고, 1996년 정보화평가(동아일보)에서 도서관부분 2위,1997년 정보화평가(동아일보-전국대학중5위), 전국도서관상(한국도서관협회)등을 수상하였다.
현재 단행본 120여만 여권과 비도서 17,000여점, 학술지 및 전자저널 7,626종과 전북지역 8개대학콘소시엄으로1,830종 구독중이며,
또한 본교 학위논문 및 원불교자료의 원문 DB화(11,655종)로 인터넷을 통하여 어디서나 원문을 제공받을 수 있으며열람석은 5,111여석을 확보하고 있다.
국립중앙도서관, 국회도서관, 산업기술정보원 등의 정보센터와 국내대학도서관과의 교류 및 1998년 전북지역도서관협의회의컨소시엄을 구성하였고,
뿐만 아니라 국내외 전자저널 및 Web DB의 확보로 여러 가지 형태자료와 전 세계의 모든 정보를 제공하여 이용자에게정보이용의 기회를 한층 넓혀주고 있다.
