Mission Statement - Our mission is to educate andempowerschool-aged youth with the social and life skills alongwithrelevant information necessary to gain control of theirlives,disavow bullying and gang activity and to become positiveandproductive role models in their schools and communities. Wearealso concerned with educating families and the community withvitalskills necessary to identify bullying and gang affiliationsandpotential gang recruits.

Throggs Neck - La Famiglia (TNLF) is a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3)organization which concentrates on wiping out gang activitiesinschools and communities. TNLF was started by Christian Claudio,anex-convict and ex-gang member. Christian grew up in theSpanishHarlem section of Manhattan and in the Throggs Neck sectionof theBronx. He began selling drugs in his teenage years, wasaffiliatedwith organized crime and soon became a leader of a drugenterprise.That life came to an end, while he was in his 20's, whenhe wasconvicted of drug and various violent felony offenses andsentencedto serve 37 years in a NY state prison. Unfortunately,hisincarceration did not end his criminal mindset. While onRikersIsland he proliferated the Latin Kings gang. That gang,composed ofHispanics, came to dominate the violent activities inRikers Islandduring the 1990's and in the New York Statecorrectionalfacilities. Fortunately, Christian recognized the errorof his waysand renounced the Latin Kings gang and all other gangactivity. Hewas even released from prison after serving only 15years.

Christian Claudio founded Throggs Neck - La Famiglia withthehopes of stamping out bullying and gang activity by notonlyfocusing on bullies and gang members, but by concentrating onthehotbeds of gang formation - the public school system, etc.TNLFstrongly believes that gang influence and affiliation startswaybefore youth are actually involved with gangs. It starts whenkidsare in school and they start emulating older kids who are ingangsand start assimilating gang ideas, language, clothing stylesandpersonas. TNLF combats these ideas by actually going intoschoolsand speaking to them in an auditorium setting, workshops andinone-on-one settings. The kids are warned of the dangers ofbullyingand gang activity, crime, drugs and violence. TNLF alsodesignsfollow up programs and workshops to meet the needs of thetroubledstudents in the schools visited. In conjunction, TNLF alsoconductsforums and community workshops on gang awareness to informtheparents and community members about gangs, gang membership,warningsigns and those youth who are most susceptible togangrecruitment.

The members and presenters of TNLF are men and women whoareex-convicts and former gang members & bullies themselves,butwho have since left prison and become productive membersofsociety. Their goal is to give back to the community and reachoutto our youth. They use their life experiences as examples ofwhatto do and not to do. They don't just bring a book knowledgeaboutgang intervention and social perspectives of troubled youth,buthave experienced a lot of the same dramas and trials thattoday'syouth are facing. They also expose the lies and consequencesofliving a criminal lifestyle as a gang member and/or bully.

Throggs Neck - La Famiglia needs your help. In order totrulymake a difference and have the biggest impact on society weneeddedicated individuals who share our vision.
