The starting point of any research would be thecollection,classification and arrangement of the material. Theresearcherneeds to take down notes from the materials surveyed andthen adopta method to classify and arrange them. The scientificmethod is theindex card system. Usually a scholar would be requiredto keep agood stock of cards. Cards are helpful for arrangementandpreservation, although they are expensive. They are easy toshiftand rearrange according to any scheme, chronological,geographical,biographical or topical. The procedure would be thesame as adoptedin a library where there are as many cards as thebooks in theshelves. The scholar would have as may cards as thereare relevantideas to put down on cards. Each single idea is treatedas a singleunit, as if a separate book, and is never clubbed withanotheridea. A single document may hold several ideas, each ofwhich isput down on a separate card. The mobile app developed bytheundersigned specifically for the purpose of aiding theresearchersin their preliminary operations of material collectionin the formof notes and photographs, its arrangement andorganization as wellas seamless transfer in electronic form toMS-Word (Open DocumentFormat). Making Notes: The mobile app,MyResearchNotes, presentsthe scholar with some definite and rigidprocedure in taking downnotes as on the index cards except that theindex card is nowelectronic and it is on the smartphone. Theprocedure is fixed, thesame details needs to be filled upon everycard without fail. Everycard contains: 1) A heading to theinformation furnished in thecard 2) A precise indication of thedate of the document - in casethe exact date is not known at leastthe approximate date, ormonth, or year 3) The page or folio numberof the document fromwhich the information is collected. 4) At thebottom of the cardthe fullest reference about the documentincluding the name of theauthor, the title of the work, the numberof the volume, the numberof the page and the year of publication.Saved notes can be editedat a later date. Swiping left or rightallows one to navigate tothe previous or next note. In addition tothe textual contentphotographic content can also be added to anote. Photographs canbe taken when necessary from the mobile appitself. Any number ofphotographs can be attached to a single note.Classifying andArranging: Four generic types of classifications arepossiblenamely chronological, geographical, topical orbiographicaldepending on date, place, species or form. In additionany numberof user defined classification tags can be appended tothe noteallowing for unlimited ways of sorting and arranging thenotes.List of notes comes up at beginning. The title of the noteisfollowed by sorting tags defined by the user. Tapping on thetagswill sort the list according to the tag selected. The filteringandsorting options are available to filter by tags given by theuser,or by the author of the source document, or by the yearofpublication. The notes saved on the mobile phone can be exportedtoMS-Word (Open Document Format). A file containing all the notesason date will be saved in the Open Document Format (.docx) whichcanbe opened in MS-Word or any other popular word processingsystem.There is also the option to save the file onto Googledrive.Importing from SD card or the internal storage option isavailablefor use in case of application re-installation or upgradeand whenthe data needs to be restored.
