Kannur sector of the Akshaya project was started in December2005.Soon the sector earned prominence in the state as itcouldcompetently and brilliantly carry out the diverse schemesassignedto it. ‘Ente Gramam’ was an innovative idea of AkshayaKannur, WhenKannur was declared 100% E-literate district in Sept.2005, it wasa fulfillment and a culmination of genuine endeavors.OurE-Centers, very receptive in nature, stayed open in everyGramPanchayat and Municipality of the district. The first timelaunchof Malayalam computing that enables users to enhance ownflair andto keep the mother tongue linked with the vast andimmeasurableinternet universe, was another milestone of success forAkshaya.E-DISTRICT Akshaya Kannur presently has 220 centersfunctioning inthe district and steps are on to start more centers.It is a matterof pride that Kannur was one among the chosenE-districts in thecountry when the union government decided to makethe issuance ofVillage Office certificates On-line. The state-wiselaunch of theon-line certificate delivery was conducted in Kannurand thedistrict soon became first in bringing about thismodernization, inthe line envisaged by the center and stategovernments. ADHAARAkshaya could admirably complete the AdhaarEnrolment sittings,though the enrolment for National PopulationRegister (NPR) hadbegun in the district. Special camps for Adhaarregistration wereorganized in the Central Prison Kannur, the CRPFcamp Peringome,the Naval Academy and the DSC Center. FOOD SECURITYOnlineregistration for food security was started in 2014, and theschemeprogressed well. Akshaya, since it took up the foodsecurityregistration, has been getting the necessary departmentalguidancefor training and other related tasks. As of now, allAkshayacenters in the district are capable to carry out foodsecurityregistration. BANKING KIOSK To be entrusted with consumerservicesof nationalized banks, was a turning point for us. 167 bankkioskswere put up in selected Akshaya centers across the district,out ofwhich 52 are of SBT, 43 of SBI and 41 of Kerala Gramin Bank.Thesekiosks, which are ‘mini banks’ in a way, became signs of trustforAkshaya while adding convenience to bank users. More kiosksarelikely to be allowed, so that no Akshaya center in thedistrictwill be without banking service. JANA SAMBARKA PROGRAMAkshayacenters in the district were instrumental in dealing withthousandsof applications related to Kerala Chief Minister’sJanasambarkaprogram. About 8000 applications were sent online andabout 15000found place in the Data entry. 35 Akshaya counters hadto be keptoperating as part of this program. Follow-up of theapplicationswere also taken up. WEB CASTING First of its kind inthe generalelection history of the country, web-casting on thepolling day wasentrusted with the Akshaya project offices. Akshayatook up thishighly responsible job, by stationing at sensitivepolling boothson the day of the general elections of 2014 and laterduring thelocal body elections of 2015. The numbers of booths thuscovered byAkshaya were 173 in 2014 and 408 in 2015. The electioncommissionpromptly approved of our service in the elections.INSURANCEPORTALS Akshaya service was spreading out year after year.Ourentry into the field of general insurance, in association withNewIndia Assurance Company, now stands well established with88portals in the district.
