Research Study- Improved performance when workingout with a partner A recentstudy by the Society of BehavioralMedicine took a look at theeffects of training with a partner onyour cardio work.. Theparticipants in the study were divided intothree groups that rodean exercise bike at a given percentage oftheir heart rate for time.The first group was a control, and theyexercised alone. The secondworked out with a single partner. Thethird group worked out with asingle partner and was told that theresults of their test werebased on the partner with the weakerperformance. Before I get tothe results, it’s important to notethat the partner was virtual.The participants Skyped with apartner and could see them exercisingvia a computer screen at thesame time. In the end, solo riders madeit an average of 10.6minutes on the bike before stopping. Grouptwo, the ones that rodewith a partner on screen, went on for anaverage of 19.8 minutes.That’s an 87% difference. Imagine how muchbetter your performancewould be if you always exercised at a ratethat much higher thanyou do now. The third group was on the bikefor an average of 21.9minutes, an improvement just over double thangoing it alone. Tellme that’s not impressive.
