Adelantósueducaciónbásica primaria en el Colegio Colombo-Inglés y laconcluyóen elColegio Parroquial El Carmelo.En ese momento, en Valledupar ganaba primeros premiosenfestivalesde canto infantil. Estos eran prueba de quesuaproximación alvallenato comenzaba a afirmarse lentamente.Según su padre, el joven entonaba canciones de su padrinoJorgeOñateya desde temprana edad. En aquellos tiempos fue cuandolafamilia setrasladó a la capital de la república para dar aconocerel talentodel pequeño.“Coco” Zuleta fue quien le prepuso a Silvestre comenzarahacerseconocido a través de presentaciones privadas.
