PolarDrift calculator is a simple polar alignment assistanttoolhelping astrophotographers to solve the question of optimumpolaralignment sufficient to minimize the effects of fieldrotation. Itis targeting typical auto-guiding setups. Byunderstandingallowable error in polar alignment, field rotation canbecontrolled to be under the minimum visible threshold. A numberofdetails increase or decrease the requirement for precision.Factorsthat require higher precision include: longer exposureduration,increased distance between the guide star and the edge oftheimaging field, and declinations that approach the pole.Factorsthat tolerate more error include: shorter durationexposure,centering of the guide star and a smaller imaging field,anddeclinations that approach the equator. Drift polar alignmentvia aguide camera and guide scope allows a precise measurement oftherate of movement of a guide star. By using tools to measurethedrift rate during ALTITUDE and AZIMUTH adjustment phases ofthedrift procedure, a value of error can be calculated.
