It's also one thatisstillrespected for its high values, in all aspects. Gunsmokefirstairedon the CBS network on April 26, 1952, billed as thefirstadultwestern. It was set in Dodge City, Kansas in the1870's.The main character, Matt Dillon, was played by WilliamConrad.OnAugust 6, 1951, William Conrad played the lead in ashowentitled"Pagosa" in the series Romance, where he played thepartof areluctant sheriff in a tough Western town. Although notatrueaudition, Conrad's character role is very close the thatofMattDillon in Gunsmoke.
