Bible (YLT) 1.0
Bible. Young's Literal Translation.OldTestament and New Testament.Young's Literal Translation is a translation of the BibleintoEnglish, published in 1862. The translation was made byRobertYoung, compiler of Young's Analytical Concordance to theBible andConcise Critical Comments on the New Testament. Young usedtheTextus Receptus (TR) and Majority Text (MT) as the basis forhistranslation. Young produced a “Revised Version” of thetranslationin 1887, which was based on the Westcott–Hort text thatwascompleted in 1885. After Robert Young died on October 14, 1888,thepublisher released a new Revised Edition in 1898.Translation philosophy:The Literal Translation is unusual in that, as the name implies, itis a strictly literal translation of the original Hebrew andGreektexts. The Preface to the Second Edition states,If a translation gives a present tense when the original givesapast, or a past when it has a present; a perfect for a future, orafuture for a perfect; an a for a the, or a the for an a;animperative for a subjunctive, or a subjunctive for an imperative;averb for a noun, or a noun for a verb, it is clear thatverbalinspiration is as much overlooked as if it had no existence.THEWORD OF GOD IS MADE VOID BY THE TRADITIONS OF MEN.Young's Literal Translation in the 1898 Edition alsoconsistentlyrenders the Hebrew Tetragrammaton (divine name)throughout the OldCovenant/Testament as "Jehovah", instead of thetraditionalpractice of representing the Tetragrammaton in Englishas "LORD" insmall capitals, but editions prior to 1898 do say"LORD" in smallcapitals.
