Path Ke Daavedaar SaratChandra 1.0
Sarat Babu has applied his pen mainly on family and social plotsandfor most of his writing period, he did not try to touchanypolitical issue though it was the period of the colonialBritishrule in India and the nationalist sentiments were emergingin allthe nooks and corners of the country. Paather Daabi (InHindi, PathKe Daavedaar) is the only novel penned by him which hasa politicalbackdrop detailing the activities of the armed patriotswho werecalled the revolutionaries, aimed for the freedom of themotherlandfrom the shackles of slavery. Perhaps it was the lastnovel writtenby Sarat Babu because it appears to be incomplete in away. PaatherDaabi or Path Ke Daavedaar (the claimants of the path)starts witha Bengali Braahmin youth, Apoorva who is fatherless anddespite hismother’s abundant love, finds himself as aloof and feelsto beextraneous in the family because of the negative attitude ofhiselder brothers (negative not only towards him but also towardsthemother). The story takes off when Apoorva gets a decentlypayingjob in Rangoon (the capital of Myanmar which was then knownasBurma). His mother, Karunamayi who was dreaming to arrangehismarriage with a religious Braahmin girl, becomes sad to sendhimoverseas but seeing the attitude of her elder son towardshithertonon-earning Apoorva, she reluctantly agrees for that. However toensure that Apoorva does not face any food-relatedproblems on theforeign soil, she sends a Braahmin cook, Tiwarialongwith him.
