This is an experimental landmarkrecognitionappfor the city of Thessaloniki in northern Greece,developedwithin theMachine Learning and Knowledge Discovery group(http://mlkd.csd.auth.gr) of thedepartmentofInformatics (http://www.csd.auth.gr) oftheAristotleUniversity of Thessaloniki. The core functionalitywasdeveloped inJava by Eleftherios Spyromitros-Xioufis whiletheandroidadaptation was performed jointly with EvangelosChristelis.The app can currently recognize 17 different PointsofInterest(POIs) around the city of Thessaloniki, usingmodernmachinelearning and computer vision algorithms. The app ismeant tohelp avisitor of the city, identify and get informed aboutthemostimportant landmarks just by capturing them withhisandroidsmartphone. One of the most unique features of this appisthat allthe processing is taking place on thesmartphone.Therefore,Internet access or GPS info are notneeded.Since the app is still in its early development, it isnotasfancy, accurate and robust as you might expect, but weareworkingon these!
