The Android Mobile Phone Application is atoolfor the biological assessment of surface water bodies andtrainingpurposes for the people who monitor the biological aspectsofsurface waters using benthic macro-invertebratescommunitiespresent in the various substratum types of water bodies.Once thesample of benthic macro-invertebrates is collected, theAPPprovides a self-sufficient solution for the Bio-monitoringwhichhas all the instruction and information regarding theprocedure.The step by step processes enable the user to go throughseveralaspects of the procedure. All the sampling sitespecificinformation is updated automatically. The date and time andall thedetails relating to water body can be selected throughsimple dropdown menus and text boxes. Pictures of the siteconditions andsample can be taken through the APP itself and itwill saveautomatically. The users just have to follow the procedureand typethe number of families / species on a simple text box andafter allthe numbers are entered, the Saprobic score can be seen onthescreen at the last. Similarly, a diversity score grid hasbeenprovided which automatically calculates the Diversity scoreofsample collected. A simple column and row table is presentwhichprovides Diversity score by simply entering 0 and 1formorphologically similar and different animals respectively.TheSaprobic score can be seen on the screen at the last. Thefinalresults are expressed in terms of Biological Water QualityClass ofthe sample with colour indicator. The APP is also havingprovisionfor changing the values and submitting the report in thename ofusers. The APP is an interactive design for Bio-monitoring.Easynavigation can be performed throughout the procedure. Thus, theAPPis user friendly especially for the researchers, studentsandpollution control authorities.

Mobile APP “Ganga Shravan Abhiyaan” is acombination of Mobile APP with Web Portal which provides aninterface to citizens to provide their valuable suggestions andinputs in the form of Water Quality Monitoring with the help ofStandard Water Quality Testing (WQT) Kit or without WQT Kit.It empowers citizens to participate in the “Mission Clean Ganga” bymonitoring River Ganga water quality in their nearby locality andthereby driving policy decisions indirectly.The data submitted by citizens is collected through the APP. Datais displayed on the citizens dashboard and survey maps afterscrutiny. Hence, results of monitoring done by a citizen areavailable to other citizens at a location.Ganga Shravan Abhiyaan APP offers operating options with Smartphonehaving internet facility in offline or online mode. The APP can beoperated with a simple SMS enabled phone.Ganga Shravan Abhiyaan APP facilitates citizens, options for datasubmission by scientific monitoring through Water Quality TestingKits (available with different organizations) or by simplevisualization of water quality. CPCB is also facilitating thesekits on request. The APP also facilitates citizen to report anyunusual activity related to water pollution in their nearby areasvisible through naked eyes.The APP compares data with CPCB Prescribed General Standards forWater Quality and informs about quality of water at that site andits suitability for different purposes like drinking, bathing etc.This will bring in confidence in public about designated use of thewater at certain river location.It is expected that this system will become eyes and ears of CPCBfor environmental policy decisions makings and it will also act asa complaint redressal portal connecting citizens directly.Since, water quality remains dynamic in a river, It is expectedthat users will monitor a site at-least once in a month, so thatdesignated best use pattern could be established.Users will be honored through the competition on yearly basis onthe basis of monitored data submission and the correctness of thedata.
