Description

Features 161 characters, almost the largestinany fighting game.

Brings all the frenzied battles between Goku and hisfiercestrivals, such as Vegeta, Frieza, Cell and many more, withnewgameplay design.

Combat is at the heart of the experience, and Xenoverse 3generallydoes a good job of translating theomni-directional,all-over-the-place scraps of the show. Basic chaincombos can justbe mashed out haphazardly, but these alone will notgrant youvictory. Building real combos requires a soundunderstanding ofvarious cancel mechanics, and different resourcemeters.

Ki powers all of your special abilities, and unless you equipskillsor gear that helps you build it efficiently, you'll need tobe smartabout when to spend it. Stamina is even more vital; itpowers yourdefensive and evasive skills, as well as your abilityto VanishCancel, a special combo-extending tool that's crucial fordealingbig bursts of damage. Especially against human opponents, forcingfoes to waste their resources and saving yours for keymomentsbecomes the key to victory, making Xenoverse 2's brawling alot moresatisfying than it initially comes off.

In terms of execution, none of it is any more difficultthanpressing a couple of buttons at the same time. But where itdidn’tnecessarily test my fighting-game dexterity, it did reward meforexperimenting with its huge cache of special abilities, whichoffera wide range of tactical options. From space-controllingabilitiesthat help you zone out aggressive opponents, to attacksthat tradeaway damage for the chance to inflict debilitating statuseffects, there are enough interesting tools to support almost anyplaystyle,as well as ample opportunity for counterplay.

Some of my enthusiasm is dampened by the wet-mop hit effects, whichrob even the beefiest looking combos of much of their senseofimpact. The camera is downright unruly at times too, initsover-zealous attempts to keep up with the action. Sincesomecommands require character-relative directional inputs, thiscanlead to frustrating missed attacks at the worstpossiblemoments.
