Treasure Island is an adventure novel by Scottish author RobertLouis Stevenson, narrating a tale of "pirates and buried gold".First published as a book on May 23, 1883, it was originallyserialized in the children's magazine Young Folks between 1881–82under the title Treasure Island; or, the mutiny of the Hispaniolawith Stevenson adopting the pseudonym Captain GeorgeNorth.Traditionally considered a coming-of-age story, TreasureIsland is an adventure tale known for its atmosphere, charactersand action, and also as a wry commentary on the ambiguity ofmorality — as seen in Long John Silver — unusual for children'sliterature then and now. It is one of the most frequentlydramatized of all novels. The influence of Treasure Island onpopular perceptions of pirates is enormous, including treasure mapsmarked with an "X", schooners, the Black Spot, tropical islands,and one-legged seamen carrying parrots on their shoulders.

[scroll for RO]Henri Stahl (1877-1942) was a Romanian stenographer and writer.Stahl was the chief stenographer of the Romanian Parliament and in1908, he created an original system of a stenography, which becamethe Romanian stenography standard. In 1914, he published the firstRomanian "classic science fiction" novel, Un român în lună ("ARomanian on the Moon"). He was the father of Şerban Voinea, anactivist of the Romanian Social Democratic Party, of novelistHenriette Yvonne Stahl, and of sociologist Henri H. Stahl.Born to a family of Alsatian and French-Swiss ancestry, Stahlwas a student of historian Nicolae Iorga and he kept a goodrelationship with his professor for all his life.Stahl's first writing was Un român în lună ("A Romanian on theMoon"), which he showed to Iorga prior to attempting to publish it.He met Iorga's opposition, who asked him "to forget the moon andstars" and try to write a book using the same style which he usedfor the first chapter of his book, in which he describes the cityof Bucharest. As such, Stahl's literary debut was in 1910 withBucureştii ce se duc ("Disappearing Bucharest"), a colourfuldescription of people and places from the Romanian capital at thebeginning of the 20th century.Nevertheless, Stahl did publish his science fiction novel, first in1913 a few chapters in the Victor Anestin's Ziarul Călătoriilorjournal, and printed all of them as a single volume in 1914.Henri Stahl (n.1877, Bucureşti - d. 1942) a fost un stenograf şiscriitor român din părinţi de origine alsaciană şifranco-elveţiană. Scriitorul a efectuat studii de istorie şi dedrept, ajungând un apropiat colaborator al maestrului său,profesorul Nicolae Iorga.A avut mari contribuţii la introducerea stenografiei, grafologieişi metodei de expertiză grafologică în România. Astfel, ca Primstenograf al Parlamentului a inventat sistemul românesc destenografie (1908), adoptat oficial în 1941.Sociologul Henri H. Stahl, scriitoarea Henriette Yvonne Stahl şiomul politic Şerban Voinea sunt descendenţii săi.
