Description

Model for end-stage liver disease score isamodel based on serum bilirubin, creatinine, and INR and isusefulto predict the three month mortality risk in patients withchronicliver disease. It was initially developed for predictingthemortality subsequent to elective TIPS shunt placement. MELDwassubsequently adopted by UNOS for prioritization of organallocationto patients awaiting liver transplantation, withadditional scoringpoints based on MELD exceptions and eligiblewaiting period. It hasalso been proven to be useful in predictingmortality and outcomesfor surgical procedures in cirrhoticpatients, and in acutealcoholic hepatitis, hepatorenal syndrome andacute varicealhemorrhage. Several modifications were proposed toMELD score suchas addition of serum sodium which might providebetter riskstratification. This application implements the MELDscoringalgorithm and provides a prognostic score based on theuserprovided input.

Child-Pugh (CP) Classification 1.1 APK
Child-Pugh (CP) classification was originallydesigned to determine the risk of portocaval shunt surgery incirrhotic patients. CP classification provides mortality risk withabdominal surgery, survival rates and a likelihood of developingcomplications secondary to underlying cirrhosis. The inputvariables include serum bilirubin, serum albumin, presence ofascites or encephalopathy and prothrombin time. The minimum CPscore is 5 whereas the maximum possible score is 15. A score of 5-6is classified as class A indicating well compensated cirrhosis, whereas a score of 7-9 is class B with significant functionalcompromise, and a score of 10-15 is a class C with decompensatedcirrhosis. This application implements the CP classification systemand assigns a score and stage based on the user providedinput.

Hong Kong Liver Cancer 1.0 APK
Hong Kong Liver Cancer (HKLC) staging systemisa classification and treatment algorithm forhepatocellularcarcinoma based on tumor characteristics and extent, performancestatus, stage of liver disease and Child-Pugh class, andotherassociated co-morbidities. The tumor is classified asearly, intermediate or locally advanced. A stage is assigned basedon thecombination of tumor status, ECOG performance status, CPclass andextra hepatic vascular invasion or metastasis (Stages I,IIa, IIb,IIIa, IIIb, IVa, IVb, Va, and Vb). The treatmentrecommendations(surgery, transplant, ablation, transarterialtherapies, systemicchemotherapy/clinical trials, and supportivetreatments) are basedon the assigned HKLC stage. This applicationimplements the HKLCstaging system and management recommendationsbased on the userprovided input.
