I. Parts of Speech compared to Parts of Human Body:

The author used to compare the 8 parts of speech to agorgeouslydressed woman as follows:

1. Nouns and Pronouns: Head.

2 adjectives and adverbs: Garments and ornaments.

3. Prepositions and conjunctions: Various joints of thebody.

4. Interjections: Footwear.

5. Verbs: The LIFE in the human body...

Head is the most important part of the physical body.Likewisenouns (and pronouns) form the subject and object of asentence andlead the sentences in active and passive voicesrespectively. Thesubject noun is the Karta (doer, owner) of thesentence which itleads. & it determines the nature of the verbdepending onnumbers (singular or plural),

Adjectives and adverbs are like ornaments and garmentsaddinglustre and beauty to a sentence. A garment is not a part ofthephysical body but required to glorify a sentence. A personwhoknows the best use of adjectives stands unique in writingandspeaking English. The problem with Indians lies mainly withusageof adjectives. They wish to speak impressive English and mostofthe time they fail because of lack of vocabulary in adjectivesandadverbs.

Prepositions and conjunctions are like internal joints, joiningvarious parts and positioning them. The body cannotfunctionproperly without these joints. A sentence will be completeonlywhen conjunctions and prepositions are properly formed.Otherwiseone has to depend upon sign language only.

Thus, we have briefly seen a comparison of parts of speechtoparts of human body leaving discussions about VERBS tothefollowing paragraphs.

A lot of my students ask me what is it that they should do toimprove their Spoken English. So here is a post to tell them what Ifeel can improve their English skills.I stated thinking about it and realized that I was lucky to beborn in a family where, despite being Indians, English was thelanguage of choice. Since my father rarely spoke Marathi and mymother only ever used Gujrati to discipline me in public, I onlyever heard them speak to each other and me in English. Hencefluency in the language just came naturally to me. I only picked upHindi once I started schooling.A lot of people don't have such a family environment. The firstlanguage they learn is their mother tongue. The next will be Hindi,if they are based in North India. Then when they reach school theyfinally learn English as the third language. In South India thesecond language is English, which is the reason why despite accenttrouble they are much more comfortable speaking in English. As a result, here are a few tips that I have collected to helpimprove Spoken English.
