This is an app demonstrating an openBLEgateway and Accessors, two projects from http://lab11.eecs.umich.edu/. Check out thecodefor the app at https://github.com/lab11/accessors/tree/master/android.At a high level:This app will update the nearest hue light (with a bit ofextrahardware attached to it) to the color you choose.At a low level:This app decodes URLs present in overloaded BLEadvertisements.It then gets color data from the user and forwardsthat data to thereceived URL. The URL accesses the light through anAccessorruntime and updates the light to the received color.Side note:The acceptable colors for voice recognition are Blue, Red,White,Purple, Green, Mauve, Yellow and Orange.Additionally, you can say off. Also, you can also specify ahexvalue with your voice by starting the 6 digit hex with either Oxor0x.

Key Information • You are being invited to participate in aresearchstudy. Participation in research is completely voluntary.• Thepurpose of the study is to understand the electricityprovided byECG in this area. • We estimate that it will take youless than 15minutes to install and learn how to use the app, andafter that,less than 15 minutes of engagement time a month. •Risks and/ordiscomforts may include the risk of breach ofconfidentiality. •There is no direct benefit to you. We hope thatDumsorWatch willhelp you understand where there are power outagesin Accra. We alsohope that this information will help improve thedelivery ofelectricity in Accra, including potentially in yourneighborhood.Introduction: The aim of the study is to examine theuse andreliability of the electricity in Accra. We are testing atechnologythat will automatically detect when there is a poweroutagehappening. We are inviting you to participate by installingthis appbecause you live in Accra, which is the city that we arestudying.Procedures: The DumsorWatch App will automaticallycollect the datalisted below from your phone whenever it is on todetermine whethera power outage is happening at the location ofyour phone. You mayuse the app if you wish to learn about wherethere are power outagesin Accra. We expect you to require lessthan 15 minutes ofengagement time a month. Data Collected: Datacollected by theDumsorWatch app will include; network metadata,cellphone metadata,audio, location, acceleration and other sensorreadings. You maychoose to opt out of location sampling at anytimein the DumsorWatchapp. For a detailed explanation of the sensingmethodology, pleasego to: http://grid.watch. Benefits: TheDumsorWatch app will allowyou to better understand outages thatare happening in Accra, Ghana.We also hope that this study willhelp improve the electricitynetwork in Accra. Risks, andDiscomforts: There shall be minimalrisks for you. As with allresearch, there is a very small chancethat confidentiality couldbe compromised; however we are takingprecautions to minimize thisrisk. Your participation in this studywill be kept as confidentialas possible, and your identity will notbe stored with your data.Only data that is anonymous and excludesyour identifyinginformation will ever be made public.Confidentiality: To minimizethe risks to confidentiality, all yourdata will be securely keptin encrypted files. Your data will bekept secure and will bedestroyed 5 years after the completion ofthe study. Identifiersmay be removed from the identifiable privateinformation. Aftersuch removal, the information could be used forfurther researchstudies or distributed to other investigators forfuture researchstudies without additional informed consent from youor yourlegally authorized representative. Voluntary Nature ofResearchParticipation: Your participation in DumsorWatch isentirelyvoluntary. You may only participate if you are at least 18years ofage. Discontinuing Study Participation: You may choose towithdrawfrom the study at any time by deleting the DumsorWatch appfromyour phone. Costs: As with any networked App DumsorWatch willusesome of your phone's battery and internet data (from WiFiorcellular) when running, as well as your time spent usingit.DumsorWatch has been designed to minimize battery and datausage.DumsorWatch monthly data usage includes initial download(around 10mb), periodic check-in messages (around 100 kb), events(around 1mb), and background updates (around 1 mb). Based on MTNdata ratesof 20mb for 0.5GHC, this will likely be less than 0.4GHCper month.We estimate that it will take you less than 15 minutes toinstalland learn how to use the app, and after that, less than 15minutesof engagement time a month.
