Foil, epee, saber! Even similar sports such askendo, boxing and other target-area-related martial arts. Improveyour reaction time and accuracy on target with this simple-to-usetraining aid.Start a training session with the tap of a button, then the appflashes (or calls out with audio) a randomly-chosen target area ata randomly-chosen moment --- and you strike (accurately, we hope). The training session continues as long as your endurance can last, just tap the button again to end the session and see your stats(simple stats for now, just how many touches you made itthrough).Customize your training profile with your target reaction time, which is the time between a target area flashing red (signaling youto attack) and flashing green. You can also customize the minimumand maximum delay before each "flash red" challenge; the wider thedifference, the more widely random the challenges and the steadieryour nerves need to be. Fencing (and boxing) are called "physicalchess" for good reason! You can use the "DEFAULT" fencer and customize it. To share withfriends or teammates, you can register any number of fencers byname and each keeps its own customized profile. To use Fencing Trainer in visual mode, simply hang your phonenear a standard fencing target or convenient section of wall youdon't mind messing up with your blade. When you see the red squareflash, hit the corresponding quadrant of your target. The app also has a setting to switch from visual cues (the redflash) to audio cues. In audio mode, you can slip your phone inyour pocket with earbuds and respond to challenges to the fourstandard quadrants in fencing - quarte (4, upper left of opponent),sixte (6, upper right), septime (7, lower left) and octave (8,lower right).BOXERS: Use this app to make shadow boxing more interesting. The4 target areas translate well to boxing's left/right to head andleft/right to body, jab vs uppercut, or whatever you wish to workon. If you find this app useful and would like a custom versionusing all the boxing target areas and punches, please email me [email protected] withyour interest in this idea. If there is enough interest I willpublish a boxing-specific version. I'm not a boxer, so I'dappreciate suggestions (or a link) to what the standard targets orpunches are.Support is via email to [email protected] . Please mentionthe name of the app ("Fencing Trainer"), the version number (foundin the "Settings" menu) and a detailed description of the problemor suggestion. Note that it is not easy to hook up an electricblade to a USB port, my investigation so far tells me it would needa separate gadget (microcontroller or Bluetooth board) that wouldcost in the vicinity of $50. If you have serious interest in such athing, email me. If there is enough interest I will look into a"Fencing Trainer Pro" that includes such a gadget mailed to you andcan gather stats on your actual reaction time, target accuracy, etc.
Pleasing Proportion Calculator 1.0

This app lets you enter a dimension andquickly calculate a set of other dimensions which are pleasing tothe eye when used with the dimension you entered. For example, ifyou know the width of some project like a chest or table you cancalculate possible heights and depths that will make an overallnice-looking piece. The app also has a second page where you cansee what various combinations of width, depth and height look liketogether (it only shows a solid block but you can imagine it beingyour chest or table - or building!). This app is not only usefulfor experienced designers and artists but for beginners (includingchildren just learning arts and crafts) who wish to learn thebasics of what generally "looks nice" and why.You enter the starting dimension using the two entry fields, labeled either "ft" and "in" or "m" and "cm" depending on ourchoice of units (set in "Settings" menu). It defaults to ENGLISH,which uses feet and inches and allows fractions (to 1/32") ordecimal notation (choose using the "Settings" menu). For furnitureprojects you may choose to leave the ft (or m) field blank and justspecify the total dimension in inches (or centimeters). For largeprojects like buildings you probably want to use the ft/m field. The app will handle any combination you enter. With your startingdimension entered, click the "DONE" button on the keyboard tocalculate other pleasing dimensions. The app uses the "goldenratio" and also the "3-4-5 ratio, displaying each in a scrollablebox. The golden ratio is any dimension either multiplied by ordivided by 1.618... You will see that this app calculatesdimensions both smaller and larger than your starting dimension. The 3-4-5 ratio means that if a dimension A is proportional to twoother dimensions B and C in the ratio of 3:4 and 4:5 (or multiplesof these) then the shape will be pleasing to the eye. This appcalculates three different sets of 3 dimensions, using the startingdimension as the "3", then as "4" and then as "5".Once you have calculated the lists of pleasing dimensions, youcan swipe to the left to visualize any combination of thesedimensions using the graphical page. Initially, this app displays ablock with width, height and depth equal to the starting dimension. At the top of the screen you see 3 spinners for width "w", height"h" and depth "d". Touch any of them to pick a different value fromthe calculated pleasing dimensions (you do not have to keep thestarting dimension if you do not wish to). The block changes sizeto stay within the screen but is always to scale and uses yourchosen w, h and d.Once you have decided on a width, height and depth for yourproject you can select & copy the values from either thespinners on the graphical page or from the lists on the startingpage.
