JimO
Constantly updates your screen with a dozen metrics describingthestatus of GPS as seen by the GPS receiver in your device. Touchanymetric to get a chart of the history of that metric. Sharethatscreen via email, Dropbox, Drive, etc. System metricsincludeestimated location accuracy, number of satellites in lastfixattempt, how many satellites are visible. Per-satellitemetricsinclude signal strength, satellite elevation above thehorizon andwhether the satellite was used in a fix. FEATURES Toucha number onthe main screen to produce a chart of that metric’shistory.Pinch-and-zoom the chart to see detail. Metrics arecolor-coded:good - green; fair - white; poor - red, withuser-selectablevalues. Sort the satellite table by PRN (a sort ofsatellite ID),SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) , etc. By default thesatellites aresorted by decreasing SNR so the strongest satelliteis in thetable's first row. Strong is relative: consider that GPSsatellitestransmit about as much power as a weak light bulb, a bulbthat'sover 12,000 miles away, so S at the Earth's surface is tiny.Sharethe charts and tables so you have a record of GPS performance.Soto document GPS signal strength just run the app for a while, thenemail (or use Dropbox, Google Drive, etc) thesignal-to-noisechart. The email will contain a link to yourlocation. DisplaysRussian GLONASS satellite status, if your devicehardware supportsGLONASS. Take in the state of the GPS receiverwith a glance: • Isit turned on? • Is it getting fixes? • How longsince the last fix?• How often is it getting fixes? • How marginalis GPS coverage?WHAT GPSTATUS IS NOT: GPStatus is not a locationlogger. It doesnot display latitude, longitude, altitude, speed ormaps. Many appsalready do this well. GPStatus displays GPS statusinformation.PERMISSIONS: Location: Needed to get status informationfrom theGPS receiver in your device. External Storage: Needed tostore thehistory of GPS status so it can be plotted on chartsInternet: Usedby the advertisement component of the app. TIPS: * Toreset achart: from the main screen select Menu/Clear History. Thisdeletesall stored data points and resets the "t=0" point. * TheSNR(Signal-to-Noise Ratio) chart shows SNRs from the first fiverowsof the satellite table. Which SNRs are shown depends on howthetable is sorted. If the table is sorted by descending SNR, the"1stRow" in the chart shows the strongest SNR. The satellite withthisSNR may change from sample to sample. The "2nd Row" SNR showsthesecond strongest SNR, and so on. * Large time gaps inchartsprobably mean o the Clear History Automatically option isnotenabled AND + the screen went to sleep or + another appbecameactive or + you left the app a while ago and it's been pausedeversince. * GPStatus suspends GPS activity when it's not visibleso itdoesn't drain the device's battery. To get around thedisplaysleeping, select Menu/Settings/Prevent Display fromSleeping. *Russian GLONASS satellite PRNs are pink and underlined.FAQ: Q:I've launched the app but the buttons and table are blank.A: Forthe app to display GPS status, GPS must be 1) enabled and 2)turnedon. 1) To enable GPS, in the Settings app under Location, setModeto High Accuracy and set Location to On.
