HEXMAPS is a geographic data manipulation andsharing tool for mobile devices (smart phones and tablets) based onthe Android operating system. This application is compatible withvarious locally or remotely stored geographic data formats whichintegrates seamlessly with web-based map services.Services that have already been integrated by the applicationinclude Open Street Maps, Yahoo Maps, Bing Maps, as well as the mapservices of the Brazilian Institute of the Environment andRenewable Natural Resources – IBAMA, of the Brazilian Institute ofGeography and Statistics – IBGE, among others.The main differential of this application is that it allows usersto take photographs with the device's camera, georeference andstore them in HEXMAPS: in other words, photographs may be openeddirectly on the map and the exact coordinates of the locationdetermined.For researchers, businesses, students in the field, or for thosewho want register their trips, HEXMAPS provides an excellentsolution so that data are not lost and the exact location of thephotograph is not forgotten.
