From what once was a unified Lakota High School came bothLakotaEast High School and Lakota West. The two physicallyidenticalschools were built in 1997 when severe over-crowdingforced thedistrict to expand. The two high schools have aninter-districtrivalry which shows off each year at the EastWestfootball game.This game usually draws record crowds, is usuallytelevised, andheld at Lakota East High School every other year. The Wharf Rat Rally Motorcycle Association is a not-for-profitsociety that relies on sponsorships and the help of dozens ofvolunteers to maintain its sustainability. It is comprised of avolunteer board of directors with nine members who are businessleaders from Middleton through to Yarmouth. Until recently, theRally has been organized and run by a totally volunteer board. TheWharf Rat Rally was originally conceived as a free event bringingtogether riders of all types in a family-friendly environment. Itbegins the Wednesday prior to Labour Day Weekend and continues forfive action-packed days. The event was co-founded by Alex Joannidesand Peter Robertson in 2005 and saw just a small gathering ofmotorcycles meet in Digby. From there, the Wharf Rat Rally hascontinued to grow, attracting bigger names and more bikes andpeople. It is now comprised of over 30 smaller events withentertainers and builders brought in from near and far. As theyenjoy music and races, dancers and stunters, participants areencouraged to make a donation to help guarantee future rallies. Theheart of the rally is the central core of the Town of Digby whichoffers both a central meeting place and access to the Bay of Fundyon the Digby Wharf. Events take advantage of both the streetscapeand the water and include music, vendors, raffles, watersportdemonstrations, and guided tours. In 2011, the town of 2,092 had aninflux of 50,000 visitors and 24,000 motorcycles over the course offive days.

A tradition since 1960, the shop founded by Bill and Faye Elamoriginated in downtown Dayton. Through the years, Bills Donut Shophas moved numerous times. In the 1970’s, there were multiplelocations in the Dayton area including the cities of: Vandalia,Wilmington, Kettering, and Huber Heights. Over time, the Elam'sdecided to focus their resources and talents in one store location.In 1967, the shop was located at the intersection of Franklin andMain, close to where Panera Bread is today and the parking was oneof the biggest problems in those days. Bill Elam admits that theadded parking available in the current location was a big motivatorin moving. In the earlier years, Bills was not open 24 hours a day.The advent of the third shift arose from the need of late nightworkers who would travel to work for NCR. “Back in those days, NCRwas going strong and everybody south of town worked there. They alltook Route 48 home-to Centerville, Lebanon or Springboro.” Fayesays. Many Centerville residents worked for the company and for awhile Bill would provide coffee and donuts to the workers at theback door using the honor system. Within a month, third shift waslaunched.

We brew a variety of coffee beveragesdailyincluding medium roast, dark roast, highlander grogg (caramelnutflavored coffee) as well as a rotating flavored coffee of theday.We offer several flavored lattes and cappuccinos includingseveralsugar free options. Hint: Try our signature CreamyCaramelMacchiato or Zebra latte (dark n' white chocolate). And toquenchyour thirst on hot summer days, we serve a wide rangeoffrappachillers, fruit smoothies, italian sodas and, of course,icedcoffee.
