ASME’s “Event Connect” app allows you tonetwork with other conference attendees and to plan your own dailyconference schedule on your mobile device. Along with selectingreminders for the technical sessions you’d like to attend, you canlist personal meetings, meals, tours, and view information aboutthe event venue. You can also opt-in to a conference directorythat’s part of the app and find and reach out to otherprofessionals in your field of research based on technical keywordsrelated to the event and sessions.Event organizers also use Event Connect to supply news updatesand provide room changes and other updates.

DEMAND—ASME Global Development Review, is apublication launched by the American Society of MechanicalEngineers (ASME) to help meet the needs of individuals andorganizations working at the intersection of technology and globaldevelopment.This publication showcases a mix of case studies from socialinnovators around the world, original articles investigatingoverarching issues impacting global development, and condensedreports from EngineeringForChange.org. The perspectives from thefield are combined with infographics, videos and photosdemonstrating the diverse challenges and solutions emerging in theglobal development space.DEMAND is written by social innovators involved in developingand delivering appropriate technology-based solutions to benefitthe environment, public health, and infrastructure. The mission isto promote shared learning through in-depth examinations oftechnology as well as the programmatic and community challengesfaced by nonprofits, socially responsible businesses, academicprograms, and government agencies engaged in global development.DEMAND’s case studies capture best practices and innovations in thespace and tackle thematic areas in global development andapplications, ranging from product design and technical performanceto distribution and evaluation models.The unifying thread is the unique viewpoint—through an engineeringlens—and a demonstration of stakeholder-driven innovation as amodel for solving the most pressing challenges of disadvantagedcommunities.The case studies in DEMAND undergo evaluation both by anindependent editorial review board and by ASME editors.
