This book helps you answer two questions,“Howdo I make my scripture study more effective?” and “What shouldIstudy today?” It is a guide to help you, and your family,duringyour daily scripture study devotional.

There are many Book of Mormon commentaries and studyguidesavailable that give the author’s perspective on the Book ofMormon.This book is not one of them. The great truths of the BookofMormon, particularly those that will be of greatest benefit toyou,are found by going directly to the source then listening tothepromptings of the Spirit.

The study guide allows you to fully customize yourdailydevotional based on the amount of time you have available. Itisdivided into seven activities: Read, Look For, Ask Yourself,PonderThis Quote, Expand Your Understanding, Personal Application,andPrayer. This format allows you to select those activitiesthatmatch both your needs and your time. For example, if you findyouhave limited time on a particular day you may only want to readtheassignment and pray. On other days you can use theadditionalactivities to expand your study and deepen yourunderstanding.

Following this pattern of scripture study and using thesetoolswill lead you to ponder the Book of Mormon and will helpyoustrengthen your testimony of its truthfulness as you listen totheSpirit. Additionally, it will aid you in obtaining theblessingspromised by Elder Marion G. Romney in the April 1980 LDSGeneralConference:

"And so, I counsel you, my beloved brothers and sistersandfriends everywhere, to make reading in the Book of Mormon afewminutes each day a lifelong practice. All of us needcontinuingclose contact with the Spirit of the Lord. We need totake the HolySpirit for our guide that we be not deceived. I ampersuaded by myown experience and that of my loved ones, as well asby thestatement of the Prophet Joseph Smith, that one can get andkeepcloser to the Lord by reading the Book of Mormon than byreadingany other Book. Don't be content with what someone else saysaboutwhat is in it. Drink deeply from the divine fountainitself.
"I feel certain that if, in our homes, parents will read fromtheBook of Mormon prayerfully and regularly, both by themselvesandwith their children, the spirit of that great book will cometopermeate our homes and all who dwell therein. The spiritofreverence will increase; mutual respect and consideration foreachother will grow. The spirit of contention will depart. Parentswillcounsel their children in greater love and wisdom. Childrenwill bemore responsive and submissive to that counsel.Righteousness willincrease. Faith, hope, and charity--the pure loveof Christ--willabound in our homes and lives, bringing in theirwake peace, joy,and happiness." (Conference Report, April 1980;112-113)
