Description

The Stick game is a simple game played with15toothpicks, matches or 15 of anything that is easy to moveanddoesn’t take up to much room for the location the game is tobeplayed in.

We, that is two old vets, one from the Korean and the otherfromthe Vietnam conflict have spent many an hour playing Stickswithour fellow service men and women and fishing, drinking andhuntingbuddies as well. We have played in barracks, saloons andfish campshere and abroad when completely sober and when slightlyinebriatedand some times a little more than slightly inebriated.Those of youwho have had the honor to serve this great country ofours may havefound yourselves in situations in the service whereyou spent a lotof time in replacement depots or what ever they callthem thesedays, we have, and games like Sticks helped fill theseeminglyendless time we spent in those situations.

We learned the game at Fort Lewis Washington in the springof1953 from another service man whose name unfortunately we cannotremember. In all of our travels we have never found anotherpersonthat knew of the Stick Game, except for that one GI in FtLewisWashington. In our travels we have never met anyone that couldbeatus at the game consistently either; in fact we usually managedtodrink free most of the time.

One of the problems with the Stick Game is that you have tofind15 of something to play the game with, some objects are toosmallwhile others are too large or are hard to pick up or even maynotstay put on the playing surface.
