ن الجغرافيا لم تعد ذلك العلم الذي يهتم بوصف الظواهر وصفاًسطحياًبعيداً عن الواقع بل أصبحت ذلك التخصص الذي يتماشى والتطورالعلميالحديث المعتمد على التحليل والقياس والربط واستخدامالنماذجوالنظريات الحديثة وبذلك صارت في الاتجاه التطبيقي الذي يعرفاليومبالجغرافيا الكمية والجغرافيا التطبيقية التي ترفض أن تستمربعيداً عنالانشغالات الكبرى للإنسان وذلك لما تمتاز به الجغرافيا منقدرة علىالتأقلم مع مختلف العلوم فهي تمثل همزة وصل متينة بين هذهالعلوم وهيتسخرها جميعا لخدمتها وتأخذ منها ما يخدمها ويميزها عنغيرها وقد شهدتالسنوات الأخيرة تحولات كبيرة في المنهج الجغرافيوالمحتوى العلميوكذلك في الأساليب التي يعتمد عليها في تحقيق الأهدافوالأغراض، ولعلمن أسباب هذه التحولات أيضاً ما طرأ على المحتوى البشريمن تطور كبيرحيث أصبح الجغرافيون يعالجون مواضيع لم تكن بالأمس معروفةحتى وكأنالمتتبع لأعمال الجغرافيين يلمس ذلك الاهتمام المتزايدبالتركيز علىدراسة الظواهر والمواضيع الطبيعية والبشرية المختلفةبطريقة تختلف عماكانت عليه في الماضي بفضل استخدامهم للوسائل الكميةالمتقدمة فيأبحاثهم استعانة بالإحصاء والإعلام الآلي والرياضياتوالنماذجوالهندسة والطبيعة والكيمياء، وكان لذلك التطور في استخداممثل هذهالوسائل نتائج هامة أسفرت عن دفع عجلة الجغرافيا وجعلها علمايتماشىوعصر التكنولوجيا ،حتى أطلق البعض على هذا التحول في استخدامالوسائلوالمناهج مصطلح (الثورة الكمية في الجغرافيا)، وهذه الثورةلقيتترحيباً كبيراً من الجغرافيين لأن للمنهج الكمي مزاياه كثيرةولعلأبرزها وأهمها أن النتائج التي يمكن التوصل إليها تكون أكثر دقةبفضلالتحليل العلمي لتسلسل الأحداث وهذا التحليل العلمي الجغرافييبرزالنظم التي أثرت في وجود الظواهر المختلفة التي يتعرض لهاالجغرافيبالدراسة والتطرق لها عبر ابحاث ودراسات عليا، فهو لا يكتفيبالوصفبقدر ما يعتمد على الأسباب التي أنشأت هذه الظواهرالطبيعيةالجغرافية.
مجالات البحث الجغرافي[عدل]
حتى تكون الجغرافيا قادرة على تشخيص المشاكل التي تنحصر في إقليمما،فإنها تقوم بتحديد المجال، وتشرح العلاقات القائمة بين مختلفالعناصرالطبيعية والبشرية مهما تداخلت فيما بينها. و نتيجة لذلكتعتبرالجغرافيا ذات خاصية متميزة إذ نجدها تضع قدمأعلى العلومالطبيعيةوقدمأعلى العلوم البشرية. فإذا كانت التصنيفات الحديثة لمواقعالعلومالمختلفة قد تمت سنة 1972 وقسمتها إلي ثلاث فئات هي: العلومالتحليليةالتجريبية، والعلوم التفسيرية التأويلية والعلوم النقديةفالجغرافيامن بين العلوم التي تمتلك خواص كل هذه الفئات. فدراسةالمجال الجغرافيتؤكد وجود مكونات كثيرة طبيعية وبشرية مترابطة تتميزبتفاعلات كثيرةتحصل بين هذه المكونات. وهو ما يجعل دور عالم الجغرافيافيها حساساومهما ولذلك نجد دراسة المجال الجغرافي لا تقتصر على موضوعفي حد ذاتهأو على ظاهرة دون الأخرى ومع أن المجال الجغرافي يشمل كلالظواهرمجتمعة، فإن دراسة هذه الظواهر تبحث منفصلة مع قياس درجاتالتفاعلوالتعليل والتحليل دون إهمال أي عنصر من عناصر المجال. و نظرالأهميةالمجال الجغرافي أقرت اليونسكو منهجية تدريسه في أوروبا علىتلامذةالمستوى الابتدائي في حالته التطبيقية اعتمادا على فهم أو إدراكخمسةأسئلة كما هو موضح فيما يلي: المجال المنتج: إن مجرداقتراحناللتلاميذ الاستفسار عن الخطوات التي تتعلق بمفهوم المجالالمنتج يعتبرمسلكا نحو إدراك الواقع أي الانتباه إلى أن كل مجال ما هوإلا حالة منأحوال الحركية (أي أنه في حالة إنتاج) وبالتالي هو نتاجلقرارات بشرية(تأثير التدخل البشري)...تى تكون الجغرافيا قادرة علىتشخيص المشاكلالتي تنحصر في إقليم ما، فإنها تقوم بتحديد المجال،وتشرح العلاقاتالقائمة بين مختلف العناصر الطبيعية والبشرية مهماتداخلت فيما بينها.و نتيجة لذلك تعتبر الجغرافيا ذات خاصية متميزة إذنجدها تضع قدمأعلىالعلوم الطبيعية وقدمأعلى العلوم البشرية. فإذا كانتالتصنيفاتالحديثة لمواقع العلوم المختلفة قد تمت سنة 1972 وقسمتها إليثلاثفئات هي: العلوم التحليلية التجريبية، والعلوم التفسيريةالتأويليةوالعلوم النقدية فالجغرافيا من بين العلوم التي تمتلك خواصكل هذهالفئات. فدراسة المجال الجغرافي تؤكد وجود مكونات كثيرة طبيعيةوبشريةمترابطة
