Aim: The mobile application we created enablesusers to type text on a touch screen using Braille code. It servesa dual purpose: firstly, it is an accessible tool for sending smsmessages and emails and secondly, it is a means for efficient andenjoyable Braille learning and practice. We anticipate thatBrailleOne could help blind and visually-impaired people benefitfrom the long-term effects of Braille literacy.Method: In BrailleOne, the screen is divided in three verticalsectors and is used as a one-hand keyboard. These three sectorsrepresent Braille dots 1, 2 and 3 at first touch, and secondly,dots 4, 5 and 6. First column dots (i.e. 1, 2 and 3) are typedfirst and appear in blue. The remaining three dots (i.e. 4, 5 and6) follow and appear in red. Apart from Braille typing, thefollowing functions are also available: Swipe up=Copy to clipboard,Swipe down=Repeat, Swipe left=Delete, Swipe right=Space.For example, to write “m” (Braille dots 1, 3 and 4), a user mustfirst touch sectors 1 and 3 and then touch sector1 again. The game is intended for pre-school agedchildren and aims at acquainting them with different animal speciesand the sounds they produce. The ultimate purpose of the game is tohelp children develop their memory skills and practice theiracoustic discrimination by relating animals to their sounds.The game contains practically no text and consists of threelevels:- Learn! The child sees images of animals and listens to theirsounds by selecting them.- Play! The child listens to a sound and tries to associate it withthe image of the animal that makes the sound.- All the animals. All animals appear in miniatures on the screenand the child can listen to the sound of every animal by selectingits image.

To serious game που δημιουργήσαμε είναι ένα καινοτόμο λογισμικό γιατην εκμάθηση του ελληνικού και του αγγλικού κώδικα Braille. Hκαινοτομία του έγκειται στο ότι δίνει τη δυνατότητα στους χρήστεςνα διδαχθούν, να κάνουν εξάσκηση αλλά και να εξακριβώσουν τιςγνώσεις τους στον κώδικα Braille παίζοντας ένα παιχνίδι. Όπως έχουνδείξει σχετικές έρευνες, σημαντικός παράγοντας για την ποιότηταζωής των individuals with visual impairments είναι η γνώση τούκώδικα Braille. Για το λόγο αυτό, είναι σημαντικό τόσο τοοικογενειακό τους περιβάλλον όσο και οι εκπαιδευτές τους να είναικαλοί γνώστες του συγκεκριμένου κώδικα. Σκοπός του λογισμικού είναινα τους διευκολύνει να αποκτήσουν αλλά και να διατηρήσουν τιςγνώσεις τους στον κώδικα Braille. Το serious game που αναπτύξαμεείναι application τύπου mobile learning και τρέχει σε mobile phonesand other portable devices με λειτουργικό android. Η εφαρμογή "ΜάθεBraille" δημιουργήθηκε με την υποστήριξη του Πανελληνίου ΣυνδέσμουΤυφλών - Περιφερειακή Ένωση Κεντρικής Μακεδονίας κατά τη διάρκειατων μαθημάτων πιστοποίησης στη γραφή και ανάγνωση του κώδικαBraille το φθινόπωρο του 2015.
