Description

Udhampur (ˌʊd̪ʱəmpur) is a city and amunicipalcouncil in Udhampur District in the Indian state of JammuandKashmir. Situated among lush green forests of Eucalyptus, it isthesecond-largest city of the Jammu region and the fourth-largestcityin the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Named after Raja UdhamSingh, itserves as the district capital and the Northern Commandheadquartersof the Indian Army. A Forward Base Support Unit (FBSU)of the IndianAir Force is also stationed here. Udhampur is used bythe ArmedForces as a transit point between Jammu and Srinagar whentravellingby road (National Highway Number 1A).
