Tuljapur is situated in Osmanabad district and Tuljapuriswell-known for Lord Shri.It is located on the hill of"Balaghat".The former name of Tuljapur was Chinchpur.LordTuljabhavaniis Feamous and family Deity(Kul-daiwatat) of peopleover allIndia.She is also described as the impressive andformidableGoddess in Hindu Puranas, who is known to combat demonsand evilforces and maintain the moral order and righteousness intheuniverse. The history of the temple has been mentioned inthe"skanda puran". There was a sage known as "Kardabh" After hisdeathhis wife "Anubuti" had performed a penance at the banks ofriver"mandakini " for Bhavani mata to look after her infant child.Whileperforming the penance the demon known "Kukur" tried todisturb herpenance during which Mata Bhavani came to the aid of"Anubuti" andkilled the demon "Kukur". From that day onwards theGoddess Bhavanicame to be known as Tulja Bhavani. The same place istoday known asTuljapur.Nizam or Adhilshah both were not interfacedin riligiousthings.There was about 5000 Peoples lived in Tuljapurat1920.
While going to Temple of Bhavani.There is Main gate namedas"Mahadwar".After crossing "Nimbalkar Darwaja" comes themaintemple. Around the temple on all four sides there is open spaceforrevolution.A hall(Sabha-Mandap) has eight-column and Onwestdirection there is sanctum(Gabhara).Small images of differentgodsand goddess are carved on the stones.Also Gabhara is buildbystones.
In center of that Sanctum we saw an idol(Devi).The idol iscarvedout by special black stone named as Gandhakee.Which we findinRiver Gandhakee.She has eight hands.Near the right shoulderthereis moon and near the left shoulder the sun is carved. The idolhaseight hands. Various types of weapons are in her palms.In oneofher right palms she holds a trishoola (a three pointed spear)whichshe has stabbed in the chest of a demon Mahishasura. Her rightfootis pressed on the demon. The left leg is straight on theground.Between her two legs there is the beheaded head ofamale-buffalo.
