This classic game that could not miss onoursmartphone.
Extremely lite code (just 12Kb!) works with any Adroid device, andno connection is required.

Tic-tac-toe (or Noughts and crosses, Xs and Os) isapaper-and-pencil game for two players, X and O, who taketurnsmarking the spaces in a 3×3 grid. The player who succeedsinplacing three respective marks in a horizontal, vertical, ordiagonal row wins the game.

Players soon discover that best play from both parties leads toadraw (often referred to as cat or cat's game). Hence,Tic-tac-toeis most often played by young children.

The simplicity of Tic-tac-toe makes it ideal as apedagogicaltool for teaching the concepts of good sportsmanship andthe branchof artificial intelligence that deals with the searchingof gametrees. It is straightforward to write a computer program toplayTic-tac-toe perfectly, to enumerate the 765 essentiallydifferentpositions (the state space complexity), or the 26,830possiblegames up to rotations and reflections (the game treecomplexity) onthis space.

The game can be generalized to an m,n,k-game in which twoplayersalternate placing stones of their own color on an m×nboard, withthe goal of getting k of their own color in a row.Tic-tac-toe isthe (3,3,3)-game.

ORIGINS
An early variant of Tic-tac-toe was played in the RomanEmpire, around the first century BC. It was called Terni Lapilliandinstead of having any number of pieces, each player only hadthree, thus they had to move them around to empty spaces to keepplaying. The game's grid markings have been found chalked all overRome. However, according to Claudia Zaslavsky's book Tic Tac Toe:AndOther Three-In-A Row Games from Ancient Egypt to theModernComputer, Tic-tac-toe could originate back to ancientEgypt.Anotherclosely related ancient game is Three Men's Morriswhich is alsoplayed on a simple grid and requires three pieces in arow tofinish.

The different names of the game are more recent . The firstprintreference to "Noughts and crosses", the British name, appeared in1864. In his novel "Can You Forgive Her", 1864, AnthonyTrolloperefers to a clerk playing "tit-tat-toe". The first printreferenceto a game called "tick-tack-toe" occurred in 1884, butreferred to"a children's game played on a slate, consisting intrying with theeyes shut to bring the pencil down on one of thenumbers of a set,the number hit being scored". "Tic-tac-toe" mayalso derive from"tick-tack", the name of an old version ofbackgammon firstdescribed in 1558. The U.S. renaming of Noughtsand crosses asTic-tac-toe occurred in the 20th century.

In 1952, OXO (or Noughts and Crosses) for the EDSACcomputerbecame one of the first known video games. The computerplayercould play perfect games of Tic-tac-toe against ahumanopponent.

In 1975, Tic-tac-toe was also used by MIT students todemonstratethe computational power of Tinkertoy elements. TheTinkertoycomputer, made out of (almost) only Tinkertoys, is ableto playTic-tac-toe perfectly.[ It is currently on display at theMuseum ofScience, Boston.
