It is written in thecommentary of Majma’ul Bayan whoever recites Surah Ya Sin solelyfor seeking the pleasure of ALLAH, all his sins will be forgivenand he will be given the reward equal to the reward of reciting thewhole Qur’an 12 times. If this Surah is recited near a person onhis deathbed, then for each letter recited, 12 angels are sent topray for his forgiveness and they remain even when the soul isbeing taken by the Angel of Death. The angels also take part in hisfuneral rites. If recited near a person who is in Sakarat-ul-Mawt(on the verge of passing away), then an angel brings a drink forthe dying person from Jannah and as he drinks of it, he feelsgreatly eased. In another narration, this Surah has been describedas the key to all good in this life and in the hereafter and asafety from all evil in this life and in the hereafter. Needs arefulfilled if asked after the recitation of this Surah and thereward for its recitation is also compared to performing twentyhajj pilgrimages. Drinking the water in which this Surah has beendissolved cures one of a thousand types of illnesses. The HolyProphet (Peace Be Upon Him) said that everything has its heart andthe heart of the Holy Qur’an is Surah Ya Sin. He (Peace Be UponHim) also said that if this Surah is recited in a graveyard thenall punishment is lifted, for that day, from all the graves and thereciter gets the reward equal to the sum of all the good actionsperformed by all those who are buried in that graveyard. It isnarrated from Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (A.S) that whoever recited thisSurah in the morning will be protected from all calamities andproblems during the day and whoever recites it at night will beprotected from Shaitan by seventy thousand angels. Recitation ofthis Surah saves one from the squeezing of the grave and its othertorments. Passing the difficult stages in the hereafter will alsobe made easy for him. The sixth Imam (A.S) also said that drinkingthis Surah after writing it in a mixture of rose water and saffronfor seven days (it has to be written once for each day) makes aperson have such a good memory that he will never forget what hehears. He will win debates and will gain great respect and status.If given to a woman, her breast-milk will increase. Keeping thisSurah in one’s possession as a talisman acts as a protection fromthe jealousy of people. The wearer remains safe from the evildesigns of men and Jinn. It also acts as a cure from disease.

There are 20 ayaat in this Surah and it was revealed in Makkah.Some scholars say that it was revealed in Madinah.
