The Plastics Race® is ateam-centered,smartphone-based question hunt in which teams of SPEmemberscompete for spectacular prizes. The Plastics Race® mixeselementsof the traditional scavenger hunt with those of otherpopular TVquiz competition shows to challenge the participants withquestionsrelated to the plastics industry. The Plastics Race®promotesnetworking and collaboration between the differentgenerations bymotivating participants to group in teams that bringtogetherdifferent skill sets and knowledge. Students andplasticsprofessionals assemble in teams of four to tackle thedifficultcourse while competing for spectacular prizes. Key to theteam’ssuccess hinges on a careful balance of the team’s members whobringmuch needed theoretical and practical knowledge aboutplastics. Each team plots its own course from one sponsor locationto thenext, answering questions that can only be accessed byvisiting thesponsor’s booths. At each location, teams will bechallenged with arandom question emanating from 10 differentcategories and 3 levelsof difficulty. It is up to each team toselect the category anddegree of difficulty they want to tackle. The more difficult thequestion the more points the team is bound toearn. Sponsors of ThePlastics Race® receive a placard with aspecialized code the daybefore the race. They post the placard in aprominent place intheir booth during the day of the race. Whenteams visit theirbooth to scan the code, they will be firstchallenged with a‘plastics question’. A ‘bonus or sponsor question’will follow. Thesponsor question allows the exhibitor to networkwith theparticipants and introduce the company’s products tothem.
