Here we go.For example, I want to make a brown-fabric lunch bag, pleasewatchthe steps below:Step 1: Cut your fabric to make a brown bagTo make your brown bag, you'll need sturdy brown canvas (askyourfabric store for duck canvas), matching brown thread and yourbasicsewing tools (scissors, pins, ruler, chalk, sewingmachine).To cut your fabric, fold it in half and trace a 16 inch x 14.5inchsquare using chalk. Cut along your chalk marks so that youcutthrough both halves of fabric. Pin just the long sides together.Myfabric looked the same on both sides but if your sidesaredifferent, make sure the the good sides are facing inwards whenyoupin them together.Step 2: Sew the two pieces togetherSew along the sides that you pinned together, removing pins asyougo. Make sure to leave an inseam of at least 1/4 inch. Irontheinseams down as shown in the picture. After a test run, Istartedto do an overcast stitch on all of the "raw" edges topreventfraying. I'd highly recommend you do the same if yourmachineallows, especially on the bottom edge.Step 3: Fold and sew the bottomTurn your fabric inside out so that the good sides are facingout.Fold and iron each of the long sides 2 inches from the seamlike apaper bag would look.Pin and sew along this top edge.
