The heat that continues to begeneratedby the core after shutdown is referred to as Decay Heatand is theresult of the further fission of the large number ofunstablefission products created during the normal operation ofthereactor. This heat is only a small fraction of that generatedinthe reactor normally and falls off quickly in anexponentialfashion, but it is the cause of most major nuclearenergy accidentsthat have occurred. This makes it the primaryconcern of operatorsof these facilities.Nuclear Meltdown is designed around the operation and shutdownofa Pressurized Water Nuclear Reactor and allows the user to trytheirhand at stopping accidents like those that occurred at ThreeMileIsland and Fukushima.
