The translatedphrasecontains a literal,if not figurative, mistranslation: theGreekword for "so" in thatpassage is οὕτως,[9] which likely means"insuch a way" as well as"so much".[10] Because the implication ofthephrase "in such a waythat he would sacrifice his only son"includesthe implication of"so much" and could certainly not includetheopposite "loved theworld so little," the translators chosethephrase "so much" forits brevity and clarity.
