Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS)is a local non-profit organization founded in 1979 as a branch ofthe Arab Family Organization in the Gulf region, aiming to advancethe Arab family and develop the social services it needs. OnOctober 10, 1995, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed AlQasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, issueda decree under edict number 4/1995, declaring SCHS as anindependent organization that enjoys legal personality and fulllegal capacity to direct necessary legal actions to achieve itsgoals and have financial and administrative independence. SCHS isconsidered the first institute in UAE to provide specializedservices to persons with disabilities as His Highness Sheikh Dr.Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council ofUAE, Ruler of Sharjah and Honoree President of SCHS, officiallyopened SCHS on Sunday evening, October 21, 1979Our VisionTo be a leader in Advocacy, inclusion, and empowerment forpersons with disabilities in the United Arab Emirates and the Arabworld.Our MissionWe strive to reduce the causes of various disabilities throughearly intervention and community outreach. We are advocates aimingat the inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilitiesthrough education, rehabilitation, and job placement to shapeindependent, self-reliant individuals in society.Objective1. Empowerment through direct services of education, therapy, andrehabilitation in addition to job placement.2. Working to reduce the causes of disability with early diagnosesand intervention through Early Intervention Center to protect thesociety on the implications of disability.3. Awareness and public education on disability issues through massmedia.4. Providing social services through connecting with the varioussectors of the society such as schools, hospitals, public andprivate institutes, and others.5. International cooperation with institutes working in the fieldof disability to support SCHS efforts in reaching its goals.Main activities and events1. Al Amal Camp.2.
