Description

The species of Taraxacum aretap-rootedbiennial or perennial herbaceous plants, native totemperate areasof the Old and New worlds.[clarification needed]

The leaves are 5–25 cm long or longer, simple and basal,entireor lobed, forming a rosette above the central taproot. Theflowerheads are yellow to orange coloured, and are open in thedaytimebut closed at night. The heads are borne singly on a hollowstem(scape) that rises 1–10 cm or more[4] above the leaves andexudes amilky sap (latex) when broken. A rosette may produceseveralflowering stems at a time. The flower heads are 2–5 cm indiameterand consist entirely of ray florets. The flower headsmature intospherical "clocks"[5] containing many single-seededfruits calledachenes. Each achene is attached to a pappus of finehairs, whichenable wind-aided dispersal over long distances.

The flower head is surrounded by bracts (sometimesmistakenlycalled sepals) in two series. The inner bracts are erectuntil theseeds mature, then flex downward to allow the seeds todisperse;the outer bracts are always reflexed downward. Somespecies dropthe "parachute" from the achenes; the hair-likeparachutes arecalled pappus, and they are modified sepals. Betweenthe pappus andthe achene, there is a stalk called a beak, whichelongates as thefruit matures. The beak breaks off from the achenequite easily,separating the seed from the parachute.

Chow Chow is a breed of dog that was developedin China, where it is referred to as Songshi Quan (Pinyin: sōngshīquǎn 鬆獅犬), which literally means "puffy-lion dog".The Chow Chow is a sturdily built dog, square in profile, with abroad skull and small, triangular, erect ears, which are rounded atthe tips. The breed has a very dense double coat that can be eithersmooth or rough. The fur is particularly thick around the neck,giving the distinctive ruff or mane appearance. The coat may be oneof five colors including red, black, blue, cinnamon/fawn, andcream.The eyes should be deep set and almond in shape.
