Description

This is the free version of Lightning Calculator. It includesad's,and all permissions are related to the ad-module. The paidforversion has no ad's. This program calculate the distancebetweenyou and the lightning by using an easy to use interface. Itwillshow the distanse in meter or feet, and a history of the 5lastdistances will give you an indication of the movement ofthelightning. Science of Lightning: Lightning is anatmosphericelectrostatic discharge (spark) accompanied by thunder, whichtypically occurs during thunderstorms, and sometimes duringvolcaniceruptions or dust storms. From this discharge ofatmosphericelectricity, a leader of a bolt of lightning can travelat speedsof 220,000 km/h (140,000 mph), and can reachtemperaturesapproaching 30,000 °C (54,000 °F), hot enough to fusesilica sandinto glass channels known as fulgurites which arenormally hollowand can extend some distance into the ground. Thereare some 16million lightning storms in the world every year.Lightning causesionisation in the air through which it travels, leading to theformation of nitric oxide and ultimately, nitricacid, of benefitto plant life below. Lightning can also occurwithin the ash cloudsfrom volcanic eruptions, or can be caused byviolent forest fireswhich generate sufficient dust to create astatic charge. Howlightning initially forms is still a matter ofdebate: Scientistshave studied root causes ranging from atmosphericperturbations(wind, humidity, friction, and atmospheric pressure)to the impactof solar wind and accumulation of charged solarparticles. Iceinside a cloud is thought to be a key element inlightningdevelopment, and may cause a forcible separation ofpositive andnegative charges within the cloud, thus assisting inthe formationof lightning. The irrational fear of lightning (andthunder) isastraphobia. The study or science of lightning iscalledfulminology, and someone who studies lightning is referred toas afulminologist.
