Zij stimuleerden hem om verder tegaan.Gedurende zijn kunstopleiding te Amersfoort ontwikkelthijaanvankelijk een voorliefde voor het surrealisme. Met nameheteigenzinnige onderzoek naar het onderbewuste spreekt hem inhetsurrealisme aan. In die jaren oefent hij zich dan ook inhetmagisch realistisch en surrealistisch tekenen en schilderen.Hetproces van schilderen gaat hem echter al snel tegenstaan; hijkaner zijn energie niet in kwijt. Hij gaat uitvoerig onderzoek aanendoor de jaren verandert zijn schilderstijl.´´Begin jaren ´70 stond figuratie centraal in mijn werk.
