Description

This app is based on the book 'ThePostageStamps of Great Britain' by W. M. Ward published in 1918 bySevernWylie Jewett Co. and can be used as a regular catalog, including ahave and want list.

The catalog uses an own numbering system, but withkindpermission from Stanley Gibbons, the main numbers from theGreatBritain Concise Stamp Catalog are included.

Shades and varieties of main numbers have a subnumber a, b,c,etc. For example, 1a, 1b, 1c are shades of number 1. Platesanddies of main numbers have the plate or die number separated byadot. For example, 1.1a, 1.1b, 1.2 are plates of number 1.

Plates and dies do have SG numbers but are hidden in thelistingsexcept at the stamp details where it is visible.

This catalog follows the same order as in the book withtheexception of SG numbers 121 (2s. brown) and 151 (1s. orangebrown). This means that some Stanley Gibbons numbers are foundelsewhere inthis catalog. For example, the die I and II of thefirst perforatedissue are grouped and mixed in the Stanley Gibbonscatalog, but areseparated in the book, where first die I isdiscussed and then dieII.

The visibility of subnumbers in the regular stamp list, havelistand want list, can be changed by an option on the mainmenu;initially subnumbers are visible. Likewise, the visibilityofplates and dies can be changed; initially plates and diesarevisible.

The book does not list every shade (or names theshadedifferently) that is listed in the Stanley Gibbons catalog; inthatcase, a masculine ordinal indicator ° is used to indicatethis.Issues later than 1917 are not included in the book but areaddedto complete the King George V period.

Only main numbers have images, sub numbers, plates and dieshavenot. At the stamp details, gray scale images of main numbersareused for the sub numbers. In the regular stamp list, images ofsubnumbers are not displayed. In the have and want list, thecolourimages of main numbers are used for the sub numbers.

Other catalog numbers from the major worldwide catalogpublisherscan be added manually. The codes used for the catalogsare: 'SG' forStanley Gibbons, 'Sc' for Scott, 'Mi' for Michel and'Yv' for Yvert& Tellier.

You can manually add a price, but the catalog does notdistinctbetween the condition of stamps like used, mint, hinged, etc. Withkind permission from Arthur Ryan & Co., the catalogcan importstamp prices of various grades as published in July 2014on the website www.gbstamps.co.uk.

The Find by Design option gives an overview with allstamps.Scrolling for the first time in this overview might be slowbecauseof the many images that must be loaded! Scrolling a nexttime willbe faster. For fast scrolling, it is tried to load allimages intomemory and it depends on the available memory on thedevice if thisis possible. If this is not possible, a message isshown andscrolling in this overview will be slower than usual.

Stamp Perforation Gauge 1.3 APK
Pep
ePerforationGauge is an app for measuring, from a picture, the perforation of a stamp that is placed on ablack background. The instructions are simple: Print a document on white paperwith a black box in the center of the document where, if the stampwould be placed on, leaves some margin between the stamp and theedges of the black background. Measure accurately the size of theblack background and enter this size at the preferences. Place thestamp on the black background and take a picture as close-up aspossible. After this, almost immediately the perforation of thestamp is given. It is extremely important that the width and height are veryaccurate, at least to one-tenth of a millimeter, otherwise theperforation will not be determined accurately.Printing a document with a black box of a certain size does notnecessarily mean that the black box on paper has that exact size,it will probably somewhat smaller or bigger. Printing the documentat the best possible quality will improve the preciseness of thesize of the black box on paper.Tip: You can also calibrate this size by using a stamp with aknown perforation. Then tune the width and height until the correctperforation is found.Do not use protective mounts on the black background because itis very likely that this gives dark shading on the picture whichwill be interpreted as being part of the black background. The red lines indicate the area on the edges of the stamp inwhich the perforation is searched for. The white lines indicateholes, the black lines indicate teeth. Minor perforationirregularities like a missing tooth are corrected and in that caseholes and teeth are indicated by a green line. The small red triangles in the corners indicate how well theblack background is recognized. They should be located exactly inthe corners, otherwise the reported perforation may not beaccurate. The perforation is reported as T × R × B × L: T is the topperforation, R the right side, B the bottom and L the left side. The perforation is given to the nearest ¼ and with two decimalplaces. When perforation approximation is enabled then theperforation is approximated to P or H × V when the differences aresmall enough: P is the overall perforation, H the horizontal and Vthe vertical. The perforation approximation can be changed in thepreferences. When the perforation is very damaged or very irregularthen imperfect is reported as the perforation. The little boxes with the perforation and reference can beplaced somewhere else on the screen by dragging these boxes. Is it that simple? Yes and no. There are restrictions to thepicture, background and stamp:· The edges of the picture must be white, otherwise the blackbackground cannot be found reliably.· The black background must be reasonably black, not too small andnot too much tilted or rotated.· The edges of the stamp must be reasonably white, the stamp mustnot be too small and not too much tilted or rotated.· The stamp must not be imperforated, syncopated or have any otherperforation irregularities.· The stamp must not be triangular, circular or have any othershape other than rectangular.· The stamp perforation must have a reasonable curved line, veryflattened perfs could give a problem.Use the back of the stamp when the edges are heavily cancelledor when the stamp does not have white edges. The samples give a good impression of stamps that will give aproper result and especially of stamps that do not.The best result of a picture is with daylight; using the flashlight could make the result of the picture even worse. Because itis the best to make a close-up picture of the stamp, it is requiredthat the camera has a autofocus function, otherwise the result willbe very blurred and unusable for the perforation measurement. Thebest is to experiment to get the best result of the picture.

This app can be used for the administration ofyour United States stamp collection, covers the postage stamps ofthe first century from 1847 to 1947 and includes a have list and awant list. The app uses the United States Design Numbering System (USD)devised by PSE (Professional Stamp Experts). For more informationabout PSE, visit the web site www.psestamp.com.Sub numbers a, b, c, etc. exist for USD numbers in the case thata USD number has more than one Scott number. Besides a fewexceptions, sub numbers exist only for the major Scott numbers; forre-issues, reprints and special printings no sub numbers exist.Example: For USD number 3 (Franklin 1c; blue imperf) the subnumbers a to h exist which are the Scott numbers 5, 5A, 6, 6b, 7,8, 8A and 9.I have asked Amos Press for permission to use the Scottnumbering scheme, but unfortunately the response from Amos Presswas: 'At the present time we do not license the use of the ScottCatalogue Numbers in apps for mobile devices.'On the PSE web site a cross reference is available between USDnumbers and Scott numbers. The visibility of sub numbers in the regular stamp list, havelist and want list, can be changed by an option on the main menu;initially sub numbers are visible.Besides a few exceptions, only main numbers have images, subnumbers have not. At the stamp details, gray scale images of mainnumbers are used for the sub numbers. In the regular stamp list, images of sub numbers are not displayed. In the have and want list, the colour images of main numbers are used for the sub numbers.Other catalog numbers from the major worldwide catalogpublishers can be added manually.
