Good News Bible (GNB) The Good News Bible (GNB), is anEnglishtranslation of the Bible. It was first published as theNewTestament under the name Good News for Modern Man in 1966. TheGNBis written in a simple, everyday language, with the intentionthateveryone can appreciate it, and so is often consideredparticularlysuitable for children and for those learning English.Since thefocus is strongly on ease of understanding, poetry issometimessacrificed for clarity. This choice can be seen in theexamplequotation of John 3:16, which is rendered, "For God lovedthe worldso much that …", which is more pedestrian than thefamiliar "ForGod so loved the world". The translated phrasecontains a literal,if not figurative, mistranslation: the Greekword for "so" in thatpassage is οὕτως,[9] which likely means "insuch a way" as well as"so much".[10] Because the implication of thephrase "in such a waythat he would sacrifice his only son" includesthe implication of"so much" and could certainly not include theopposite "loved theworld so little," the translators chose thephrase "so much" forits brevity and clarity.
