Project Management for Instructional Designers(PM4ID) began as a remix of Project Management from Simple toComplex written by Russell Darnall and John Preston. Theygenerously published their original book under a Creative Commonslicense through Flat World Knowledge. PM4ID, now also includes asignificant amount of additional content created by the Authorslisted below and aggregated from around the web in compliance withthe open license requirements of the original textbook.

This book may be pursuing a career or further expertise inproject management, it is important to outline how this book fitswith other texts or certification requirements of the field. Thisbook is designed to provide an overview of project managementprinciples in instructional design, not as preparation forcertification exams.

However, in an effort to bridge the practical applicationprinciples with the knowledge needed for certification, eachchapter of this text will begin with a reference to thefoundational text from the Project Management Institute (PMI)entitled A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge(PMBOK),as well as two of the main certification exams – theProject Manager Professional Certification (PMP) and the CertifiedAssociate in Project Management (CAPM).
