Themission of the Contra Costa Crisis Center is to keeppeople aliveand safe, help them through crises, and connect themwithculturally relevant resources in the community. 211 isthenational, toll-free, three-digit phone number to call 24 hoursperday for information about local health and social services.Itenables people to find out about valuable and up to dateresourcesin their community quickly and easily. Studies show thatpeopleseeking services call seven to eight numbers before findingtheright one, or they give up before getting the help they need.Thisis especially true for people whose primary language isnotEnglish. 211 eliminates guessing and misdirecting of calls,andbilingual call specialists provide help and information. Ouragencyis authorized by the California Public Utilities Commissionas thesole provider of 211 service in Contra Costa County.Ourcounty-wide, on-line resource database ( www.211database.org)isthe backbone of 211 in Contra Costa County. Call specialistsusethe database to refer callers to services, while countycaseworkers, nonprofit staff, school counselors, clergy,lawenforcement personnel, private therapists, and others accesstheinformation free of charge for their own clients. All resourcesareupdated regularly and coded according to nationaltaxonomystandards.
