Channel16.me
*** Winner of the European SatelliteNavigation Competition - Austria, Oct 2014 ***The basic idea of Channel16.me is to introduce a new way ofconnecting & communicating with your surroundings during youroutdoor activities (sailing, hiking, climbing, mountain biking, paragliding, ...), and in case you have a problem, you can reachother people nearby quickly, and in case someone else has aproblem, they can reach you quickly. Works in the city too! Most messengers out there, like WhatsApp, Voxer, ... are thereto communicate between your contacts.Channel16.me is a location-based messenger that allows you tocommunicate with other people in your area purely based onlocation. It is the world's first true Walkie-Talkie forsmartphones: Audio, text/chat messages, and photos can bebroadcasted to other people in your area based on yourlocation. After months of development with an international team of 3(#Austria/#Czech/#Japan), an app came to life that mimics what areal Walkie-Talkie / CB / PTT is doing: It broadcasts based on your(ambient) proximity.Where does the name come from? Channel 16 VHF (very highfrequency) is the most important radio frequency on the marineradio band. The "real" Channel 16 on real radio Walkie-Talkies isused to establish a radio connection with others, like with anothership, or with the harbor master. It is also used to broadcastdistress calls such as mayday, pan-pan, securite or other urgentsafety messages.Ship-to-ship, or car-to-car?The app "Channel16.me" at this point can be used for any purpose(not just for sending distress messages), and no radio license isrequired.Features:* Broadcast voice & audio messages & photos to otherpeople in your area* See other people on a map* Various privacy settings: you can hide your location (otherwon't see you on a map) or blurr your location* You can block anonymous users as well.* Great for Talking Skip! The App Channel16.me has been developed by mobile & wearablesoftware enthusiasts from Salzburg, Austria, and Sapporo, Japan. Itstarted at a Hackathon in San Jose in Fall 2012, where we won a 3rdplace - and kept developing every since.
