Klondike is known as solitaire, being one of the better known ofthefamily of patience games. Klondike is played with a standard52-carddeck, without Jokers. After shuffling, seven piles of cardsare laidfrom left to right. Each pile begins with one upturnedcard. Fromleft to right, each pile contains one more card than thelast. Thefirst and left-most pile contains a single upturned card,the secondpile contains two cards (one downturned, one upturned),the thirdcontains three (two downturned, one upturned), and so on,until theseventh pile which contains seven cards (six downturned,oneupturned). The piles should look like the figure to the rightat thebeginning of every game. The four foundations (lightrectangles inthe upper right of the figure) are built up by suitfrom Ace (low inthis game) to King, and the tableau piles can bebuilt down byalternate colors, and partial or complete piles canbe moved if theyare built down by alternate colors also. Any emptypiles can befilled with a King or a pile of cards with a King. Theaim of thegame is to build up a stack of cards starting with twoand endingwith King, all of the same suit. Once this isaccomplished, the goalis to move this to a foundation, where theplayer has previouslyplaced the Ace of that suit. Once the playerhas done this, theywill have "finished" that suit, the goal beingto finish all suits,at which time the player would have won. Thereare different ways ofdealing the remainder of the deck: The goalis to move all cards tothe four foundations on the upper right. -Turning and Moving Clickthe stock (on the upper left) to turn overcards onto the wastepile. Drag cards to move them between thewaste pile, the seventableau columns, and the four foundations.You can also double-clickcards instead of dragging them to afoundation. You may move singlecards or piles of cards within thetableau. You may only move cardsoff the waste pile, but you mayonto and off the foundations. Anytime you expose a face-down cardin a tableau column, that card isautomatically turned face-up foryou. The Foundations are ordered bysuit and rank, each Foundationhas one suit and you must put thecards onto them in the order Ace2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Jack Queen King.To get there, you can use themoves described below. - Allowed movesFlip cards from the Stockonto the Waste. You can flip either 1 or 3cards from the Stockonto the Waste. The number can be configured inOptions. Move acard from the Waste onto the Foundations. If the topcard of theWaste can go onto one of the Foundations then you candrag itthere. Move a card from the Waste onto the Tableau. You canmovethe top card of the Waste onto one of the Tableau piles. Moveacard from a Foundation back onto the Tableau. You can move thetopcard of a Foundation back onto the Tableau. This isn't allowedinall Sotaire versions, but we allow it here. Move one or morecardsfrom one Tableau pile to another. You can move a face up cardonthe Tableau onto another Tableau pile, if that pile's top cardisone higher than the moved card and in a different color. Youcanmove a Tableau card onto the Foundations. You can do thismanuallyif you need to clear some space on the Tableau. You caneither dragthe cards onto the Foundation, or just double click itand then itwill got there by itself. When all cards on the Tableauare turnedup, and all cards from the stock are finished then thegame willautomatically move all the Tableau cards onto theFoundations,since at that point you are guaranteed to win the game.- Time andMoves The game counts the moves you make, and measuresthe time ittakes to finish the game, so you can compete againstyour previousbest games
