Capricorn (♑) (English pronunciation: /kæp.rɪ.kɔːn/) is thetenthastrological sign in the zodiac, originating from theconstellationof Capricornus. It spans the 270–300th degree of thezodiac,corresponding to celestial longitude. Under the tropicalzodiac, thesun transits this area from December 22 to January 19each year, andunder the sidereal zodiac, the sun transits theconstellation ofCapricorn from approximately January 16 toFebruary 16. Inastrology, Capricorn is considered an earth sign,introvert sign,[2]a power sign[3] and one of the four cardinalsigns. Capricorn issaid to be ruled by the planet Saturn. Itssymbol is based on theSumerians' primordial god of wisdom andwaters, Enki[4] with thehead and upper body of a mountain goat,and the lower body and tailof a fish.[5] Later known as Ea inAkkadian and Babylonianmythology, Enki was the god of intelligence(gestú, literally"ear"), creation, crafts; magic; water, seawaterand lakewater (a,aba, ab).[6]

The mountain goat part of the symbol depicts ambition,resolute,intelligence, curiosity, but also steadiness, and abilityto thrivein inhospitable environments while the fish representspassion,spirituality, intuition, and connection with thesoul.[5]Individuals born between December 21 to January 19 may becalledCapricornian.[7]
